Obama Surges To Lead Against Generic Republican

Beset by debt ceiling woes, President Obama has been trailing behind a hypothetical "generic Republican" in recent polls. But no longer! The latest from Gallup has him moving into a solid lead.

According to the monthly survey, which was conducted from August 4 -7, Obama would win 45-39 against "the Republican party's candidate."

I did read a story where only 44% would reelect him. No worries at this pace they wont have jobs either.

A surprisingly good poll, particularly considering that actual Republicans tend to under-perform generic Republicans. Still, everything hangs on what the economy is doing in 2012.

Just a few more positive figures to add to your report card on Obama.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll - Rasmussen Reports™

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 21% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21 (see trends).

The president trails a Generic Republican by three points in an early look at Election 2012.

Another day, another new low in consumer confidence. Seventy-four percent (74%) now believe the economy is getting worse. Overall, confidence is the lowest since March 12, 2009 and is approaching the lowest levels of the post-9/11 era. Just 13% believe the jobs market is better than it was a year ago while 50% say it’s worse. At a time when economists and others wonder if the U.S. is about to enter another recession, most Americans believe the recession never ended.

The economy and the strength of the opponent.

At this point, the GOP is in trouble. Even if Perry or Palin jumps in, they don't have anyone terribly inspiring.

Though, at this time in the early 90s, Clinton was a Dark Horse and everyone was sure H.W. Bush would win re-election.

Some of our best Presidents have been dark horses. They have been people aren't terribly inspiring.

:lol: So this poll was taken prior to a 2000 point crash in the stock market? This must be an Old thread of your's--certainly you wouldn't post an old poll?

This is a monthly poll that just came out?

Oh. Ok. Wait until next months poll, which includes the last 3 days of economic meltdown and credit downgrade.

This is a RECENT poll conducted AUGUST 4-7.

Ah, so it was before the market crashed, and before Obama's disasterous speech in which he blamed everyone in the world except himself.

Hmm. It's true. Obama is the greatest president of all time...so long as you don't ask him to actually do anything. But boy oh boy does he give a pretty speech!!!!!!

So let me get this straight,

Obama can have 9 to 10 percent unemployment pretty much for over 2 1/2 years of his term and he is being considered for another term? WTF? To make matters worst he has spent more within that time then George W Bush spent in 2 full terms. :eusa_whistle: I think people have lost there minds.
