Obama needs to quit working with Republicans "behind the scenes"

Obama needs to "go public".

For some reason, he is lost in this fantasy that the Republican leadership "cares about the middle class".

Stop already. They get the bulk of their money from a handful of billionaires.

Remember what Republican leaders where calling the unemployed just before the last election? Hobos and people that will spend their unemployment on drugs. Remember when they threatened to cut unemployment benefits if the Bush tax cuts weren't extended?

Republicans aren't holding back helping the Middle Class to stop Obama. They only have one real policy - cut taxes for the rich and for corporations. They don't offer jobs bills because they don't subscribe to those policies. Cut taxes is all they have.

Besides, we already know they are blocking anything the Democrats try to do.

People voted during the last election thinking that Democrats weren't cleaning up Republicans mess fast enough. They figured things couldn't get worse. Then look at what Republicans have done since that election. They've already told us their one policy.

That's the real "choice" for the next election. Billionaires or us.

Obama needs to put his policies "out in the open" and show the American people what Republicans are up to. Look at the unpopular "Ryan Plan" (now the Republican Plan). We need to get more of that "exposed".

blaming Democrats for demanding tax increases as part of a deal rather than accepting more than $1 trillion in cuts to health care for the elderly and other government programs.

It really would help if the Democrats actually put out some kind of plan of their own. Republicans have a legitimate gripe that the Dems refuse to do anything but complain about theirs. Granted, I doubt Republicans would ever be willing to discuss any plan put out by the Dems, but the fact is, until the Dems actually put out a plan that makes some kind of sense, the Republicans can and will use it against them. And who knows, maybe if the Dems put something concrete out there, it is possible that enough Republicans might be willing to discuss some compromises.

In the end, we have to cut some spending and we have to raise revenue. Both sides are going to have to give on each a little if we are to make any progress.

Can we have some of what you have been smoking, it must be powerful?

I don't know why you lieturds persist with this lie. Do you? Moron.

I agree, Obama and the democrats need to "go public" and let their hatred of corporations and American energy and the Flag and Christianity and the Chamber of Commerce and banks be the basis of their political message. Say it loud, "I'm socialist and proud". It would make the 2012 election so much clearer.
Wasn't it cons who wanted to let the banks and auto manufacturers go bust?

No, actually what we wanted was for them to go through the normal bankruptcy/reorganization process. But, we didn't get our way now did we? We didn't block what the obie noodle wanted to do did we? Please send the meme to Ardean. TIA.

When you say, "Republicans don't care about the Middle Class", the Republicans say, "Well, neither do the Democrats".

Not a one says, "Republicans care about the Middle Class. That is why we have policies that.....". And then name a policy that helps the Middle Class. Just one.

They keep saying, "Tax breaks for the rich and corporations make jobs". Only they haven't been saying that with the same conviction. Why? Because not even they believe it any longer. It's all about getting rid of the black Muslim Socialist Marxist in the WHITE House. Who cares about "policy or jobs"? They don't even bother to mention the Middle Class.

Remember, it was Obama that extended the Bush tax cuts. He had to. Millions of American were going to lose their unemployment. They were being held "hostage" by Republicans. Is being held hostage of "sign of caring"?

I don't think it's the Republicans saying that as much as it is the rest of us. We're sick and tired of pretending the Democrats are any better.

The GOP does not take into consideration "class" or "race" or any other demographic.
They govern based on what they deem is best for the country as a whole.
You know...sort of the way our government was designed by the founders?

The first line in bold?
You made that up.

The second line in bold?
You made it up when you say they are not saying it with conviction. They are.
However, the dont use the term "the rich".....only the left does.

Yes Please continue following the extreme left wing agenda you have been, we'll see how you both go in this nation

Tax cuts for the rich don't create jobs. Excessive taxes cost jobs. stupid taxes that make it expensive or pointless to hire folks cost jobs. You eliminate brain dead taxes, jobs that were lost can be found again.

They are better. Most are a lot better. They have to be. It's like Weiner and Vitter. One embarrasses himself and is drummed out of congress. The other breaks the law in two states and receives a "standing ovation" at his "return".

Clearly, there are two different sets of "standards".

If they were alike, why would Democrats fight for "health care"? Medicare? Education? Unions? Keep jobs here? and so on? Why do Democrats fight to protect the EPA while many, if not most Republicans, want to end it? While Republicans fight to transfer even more wealth from the middle class to the top 1%.

Democrats don't fight for anything other than power - same as the Republicans. That they have different means to the same corporatist ends is irrelevant.

Obama? Working? The only thing he's been working on is his putting game...and planning Michelle's next 500 person vacation

It isn't Republicans saying that, it is the Independents.

Quite a few of them do, we just do not believe them.

Democrats say we need to tax small businesses or the government will shrink.

Remember, it was Obama that extended the Bush tax cuts. He had to. Millions of American were going to lose their unemployment. They were being held "hostage" by Republicans. Is being held hostage of "sign of caring"?

As I recall it, the Republicans were fine with extending the benefits, they just wanted to find a way to pay for it without driving the country deeper into debt. Obama, being the weak kneed pantywaist he is, decided to offer an extension of the Bush cuts to the Republicans in exchange for them not requiring the government cut something totally unneeded in order to pay for unemployment.

The US constitution was built on the idea that no one party should run roughshod over the rights of the minority. Compromise is and always has been the way things work. It keeps tempers cool and prevents folks from shooting at each other, most of the time.

Obama also has to recognize that he has a very small majority to work with in the Senate, and his party is in the very small minority in the house. His attitude of "In your face" to the minority and the majority of the electorate cost his party more than 60 (13%) seats in the house in the last election, and 15% of the contested seats in the senate.

He needs to listen more, and be willing to make deals. He is not an autocrat like Nicholas II, Louis XVI or Charles I of England.

We really could use a bit of "humble pie" on both sides. You are absolutely correct though, that there needs to be some compromises. The problem is neither side wants to budge on anything, and to this point, the Dems can't even seem to put together some kind of plan to address these problems. Truthfully, I don't care so much about the short term problems, because it's the long term issues that are going to really cause major problems down the road. If we address those, then we can figure out what to do in the short term.

That's incorrect. The Obama administration met halfway on budget cuts. The republicans want much more and no tax increases..even in the form of cutting subsidies..or going after tax cheats.

For once I agree with deaniac. Obama does indeed need to stand by his tax and spend policies and frankly, push an even bigger debt and taxes agenda.

That works for me.
