Looks like another attempt to boost the Democratic vote by allowing more immigrants into the US. The disturbing part of this one though is the potential for increasing the danger of terrorism in America. The immigrants having their entry eased are those with connections to terrorism.
Obama administration officials cite a list of applicants requesting asylum who really posed no risk, and whose connections to terrorists is minimal. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt, said "the existing interpretation was so broad as to be unworkable. It resulted in deserving refugees and asylees being barred from the United States, for actions so tangential and minimal that no rational person would consider them supporters of terrorist activities."
But critics say despite the good intentions, the change raises security concerns, particularly after a report published Thursday on asylum fraud. Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, claimed the change was another effort to maximize the number of people being allowed into the country. "This administration no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt in making these kinds of rule changes," he said. "The consequences are potentially dire for ... public safety."
The Washington Times also reported Thursday that a 2009 fraud assessment found at least 70 percent of asylum applications had signs of fraud.
So no matter what the terrorist connections for asylum seekers are cited to be, and how slight they are claimed, who can really be sure these claims are true ? In the past, asylum seekers were granted asylum, and they turned out to be terrorist killers themselves. Examples of this abound, including the recent Boston Bombers, the Tsarnaev brothers. Ramsy Yusuef, convicted in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that killed 6 people and injured thousands, was an asylum seeker. As INCREDIBLY is done with asylum seekers who arrive on our borders by any means (in this case by plane) and then ask for asylum claiming they were persecuted somewhere, Yusef was granted a temporary stay, released, and asked to return for an asylum hearing. We are still releasing them into society just as we did Ramzi Yousef on September 1, 1992, and now Obama has taken action to make this weak link in the chain even weaker. Who has this man been listening to ?
