Obama, former community organizer in Chicago, now wants to organize the entire country. BO wants to establish a civil national defense force….along with all kinds of national community services monitored by the federal government….even requiring students to serve a set number of hours in service to the government….

....couching all this in his new "patriotism" of course…kinda like a draft for the non-military…gee, maybe we can call this "The Peoples Army"….and maybe we can wear red scarves and blue or brown shirts…while running around doing the bidding of THE STATE…and btw...where are the billion$ for all this going to come from...?

'The burden of service has fallen almost exclusively onto the backs of our military,' Obama said at a rally in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 'We have got to have a civilian national security force that is just as strong.'

Obama seeks expanded civilian role as counter to strained military

"Obama believes that middle and high school students should be expected to engage in community service for 50 hours annually during the school year or summer months."

College kids get the best deal. Obama's American Opportunity Tax Credit will essentially pay $40 per hour, up to $4,000 a year, for 100 hours of "public service." Yes, you read that right.

"This fully refundable credit will endure that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans, and will cover two-thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university. Recipients of this credit will be required to conduct 100 hours of public service a year, either during the school year or over the summer months." (emphasis added)

wish i was paid for all the community service i voluntarily took part in

Giving kids jobs is a bad thing?

Yes...if it's the government "giving" out jobs...or...per Obama's plans...requiring service...

....any individual job or volunteer project from the bottom up is far better for our country than mandated government service created from the top down...

mandating it would be a bad idea. if it is created as more of a scholarship type system, i would have no problem with it. would give $ for college while cutting down loans and getting community help from it.

Where exactly does it say required besides in this article? Most states already require some community service hours to graduate from high school...wasn't that part of Bush's no child left behind fiasco where he held his breath and threatened to pull federal funding for schools of states that don't toe the national line? Mehopes you were crying about it then.

And in turn...increase college costs...the viscious cycle continued...

The article is also misleading in that it sounds like people will be getting paid for community service but it's actually a tax credit. And we know how wingnuts hate anything that cuts taxes.

Government should not be in the business of giving jobs to anyone. So yes it is bad. Our government screws up just about everything they touch, so I really do not get why liberals are in such a hurry to put them in charge of more.

First Obama was a Marxist, then he was a Communist, then he was the anti-Christ, now he's a fascist.

You guys are running out of scary monikers to pin on the next President of the United States.

Yes, mandatory community service has been increasing in our liberal-addled public school system. Obama is just taking it to another level. Here in Washington state a high schooler needs 60 hours to graduate.

I believe that mandated community service is unconstitutional because it violates the 13th, which prohibits involuntary servitude.

Thirteenth Amendment

Section 1:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2:

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Yeah, because Obama's political views reflect and resemble all those things....the one thing they DON'T reflect is individual freedom...

.

Contrary to what you learned in your terrible public schooling, there is little difference between a communist, a fascist, and a Marxist.

That's nice. In our very red state they have to only do 40 hours of it. Big freaking deal. You act like Obama is doing something that hasn't been going on for years.

Cry me a river.

I had a very good public schooling, thank you very much. And having studied all in my very good public schooling, I can tell you there is a huge difference between communism, fascism and anti-Christism.

Anton LeVey and the Church of Satan believe very strongly in individual liberty, including having sex with whomever you want whenever you want, something most conservatives tend to have a bit of a disagreement with. So, Satanism is not antithetical to individual liberty.

Many conservative teachings are very much anti-liberty however. Banning gay marriage, banning pornography, banning recreational drug use, banning abortion, The Patriot Act, eavesdropping, restricting immigration and the free movement of foreigners, detaining accused people without due process, etc etc all very much restrict individual freedom. Conservatives don't seem to mind restricting liberty.

Conservatives want to restrict your social freedom but give you economic liberty while liberals want to give you social liberty while restricting your economic freedom.

Oh really? Detail me some of these "huge differences" between fascism and communism. Both are nothing more than right stealing, totalitarian regimes. The only significant difference is the "hook"-- the gimmick-- the noble lies. Its significance is purely semantic, not practical.

Fascism is nationalistic, communism is not.

Communism believes the rights of the worker is preeminent, fascism does not.

Communism rejects religion, fascism is agnostic and is often supported by the Church.

Communism believes the state should own the means of production, fascism does not.

Communism believes in democratic expression, albeit restricted, fascism does not.

Communism generally supports exporting revolution, fascism does not.

And so on.

Both communism and fascism restrict freedom as a Western concept, but the differences are stark. Throughout the past hundred years, communists and fascists violently battled each other. They don't do that because of semantics.

This/these are the "hooks" of which I spoke. Semantics and nothing more. The props for agitation and radical change.

Reality: both suppress religion.

Communism believes the state should own the means of production, fascism does not.

Umm. Facism does the same thing by having complete control of the economy and stipulating that your private property/raw materials/factories/etc. are only yours until the government has need of it. Facism owns its means of production by more stealthy means.

Communism believes in democratic expression, albeit restricted, fascism does not.

:cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

What? Are you really this fucking daft? Is that you, Stalin?

Communism generally supports exporting revolution, fascism does not.

Hitler did not support Franco or Moussilini? Really? Or use ethnic strife simialrly? Such as the Croats verus the Serbs? And when Fascist take over another country, are they not exporting its revolution? Sure it does.

And so on.

The only differences are in semantics. Only a leftie loon that likes to villify "fascism" is so stupid and ignorant to assert otherwise. Both are nothing more than socialist totalitarian regimes, with nothing but a few props painted a different color to differentiate between them.
