Newsweek: Get Rid of FCC

I have a friend who as a spokesperson for the industry before Congress and the Canadian Parliament. Regulation of the internet is here. We need to control the internet regulatory process. Shouting out "dismantle" is sure to win over converts. How many people are against regulation---except in certain areas?
the odds are we will get bad regulation NOT because of the regulators but because of the public demands.

look at crack/coke sentences and laws. they came about not because of some grand racist plan, but because people in the communities most affected by the early craziness of the drug situation demanded congress act---and they did---in the name of the people. I saw the former head of DEA for NYC/Boston who had other positions withing the dept/agency speak about how puzzled and horrified he was as he testified before congress and had individual congress people trying to out tough each other in regards drugs. things went south...the law of unintended consequences.

kiddie porn, sex, gambling, and the demands for filters of content will bring about horrible regulation because of the human factor.
Thank you for outlining what I have to work with.

rants and raves are no substitution for action and policy. get all anarchist on teh system and you lose every time. work within the system we have or else try and change it, but remember change happens very sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly.

Yeah, Great Britain sure did win that American Revolution.

As it pertains to the PUBLIC AIRWAYS, I think something like an FCC must exist.

Likewise the FCC should have maintained limits to the amount of MSM that any single person or corporation could own.

Thanks to young Mr. Powell working on behalf of the captains of the MSM idustry, of course, the FCC betrayed that trust.

Here's the thing, regulations are not the problem, BAD REGULATIONS are the problem.

In that sense, I am more than just a little sympathetic to our libertarian brothers and sisters (and thei bigger brothers and sisters the real anarchists) who object to giving any government any power over us.

In that sense I am also sympathetic to those of you who cling to your guns in hopes that they might give you some small measure of control over bad government.

Sadly mankind is a social creature AND a selfish creature, too.

And since we are, by nature, prone to cooperating, but at the same time forced to compete, having some system in place to keep the cooperating possible, while allowing healthy competition to reward the more productive among us, is a balancing act that we will never get right, but must keep trying to do, anyway.

Major Problem: What is truly offensive shifts frequently so setting specific guidelines does not protect any 'innocents' from seeing truly offensive material, it only gives those who wish to offend with intent a reason to evolve how they offend.
