Nothing and no a word about killed by Germans 1,5000,000 civilians in Leningrad , from no one German politician, only remembrance of Holocaust victims matters.
January 27th is anniversary of breaking of blockade after 900 days of siege by Germans.Nothing of interest for anyone in German politic.
Only pleading for better Holocaust culture of remembrance is important.
All victims of German WWII are equal, but some of them are more equal.
Today, Saint Petersburg (former Leningrad) commemorates one of the most terrifying dates in its history: the beginning of the 872-day blockade by Nazi forces. Around 600,000-1,500 000 people didn't survive the blockade, dying from hunger, cold and diseases. The Soviet people showed real heroism and zest for life being able to withstand all the horrors until help finally came.
With a view to the Holocaust Memorial Day on this Sunday, Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has spoken out in favour of a rethink in the reappraisal of Germany's recent past. "Our culture of remembrance is crumbling, it is under pressure from the extreme right", warned Maas in a guest article for the "Welt am Sonntag".
