It is clear that Romney doesn't quite get most people. It is not surprising considering he has lived the life of a rich kid where a bubble is already established, and also is a member of a religion that further separates him from society. Why is this gap there is the question.
Does Mitt try to separate himself from common people? First he is heavily into a rather exclusive religion. It is not scientology exclusive, but they do make a lot of fuss about the trappings of common society and the influence of outside corruption. This is to the point where they have made their own compounds and have attempted to isolate themselves. Is mitt part of this, or is he just a casual practitioner? Here we have to consider his family history. They ran from the US in order to practice polygamy and reluctantly came back when things when sour in mexico. So we know he was exposed and raised under those ideas because that would be what a mormon family would do. Of course, Mitt may not believe these things despite them having been told to him, so we again have to look at his past actions to see evidence for how he holds his religion in high esteem. His cousin Park Romney was a high preist who left the church and is now critical of it. Mitt continues to separate from him due to his faith. He also avoided entering the draft for a time because he was doing religious missionary work for the mormon church in france during the vietnam war. Mitt has never spoken against any of his activities for the church or the church. So given the fact him and his family have been active in the mormon religion, and that he has never separated from it shows he agrees with it's actions and activities. This would also mean separating himself from those who do not practice mormonism, and disrespecting their views because they are not enlightened mormons.
When you combine a religious elitism, a financial elitism, and a power elitism as we see with Mitt you see a person who has experiences that exist in a very little bubble. We also see a reason to look down upon outside views. We see no sign that Mitt finds anything wrong with this. We also see that he has never made an effort to come out of this bubble until it was necessary to court the public. That is the actions of an elitist politician who does not want to listen to the commoners, but is forced to for votes.
Opponents, please tell me where this is wrong, and show me some evidence.
