There were quite a few facilities on a verge of closing if it were not for billions of dollars of contract Obama administration secured from India.

America runs a big deficit in its India trade and so your economic rationale for this relationship is more an ambition than a current reality. Trade is a symptom of relationship rather than its cause. This is really and more deeply a continuation of the great game with America (in the place of Britain) and Russia joustling for influence. India in the 60s almost went Commie partly in reaction to the Raj. Today they play off the Americans and Russians knowing that the Islamic world is mainly hostile and Sino Indian relationships are more of a standoff than a relationship even though trade is increasing there also. Positive statements about Indian Russian relationships are indicative of a reluctance to put all their eggs in the American basket.
