Most buildings and their foundations are destroyed. Some bridges are destroyed. Dams are seriously damaged. Large landslides occur. Water is thrown on the banks of canals, rivers, lakes. The ground cracks in large areas. Railroad tracks are bent slightly.

THIS EARTHQUAKE THAT COULD BE DESTRUCTIVE ON COASTAL AREAS EVEN

Given that we are in a period that is likely to produce a subduction quake in the near term, under a century, I hope that the President elect chooses someone more competent than Brownie for FEMA.
 
Alaska's been rolling it's usual M2 to M4's on a daily basis. Had a M5.8 a week or so ago as I recall it. As long as we keep it under M7 we'll be fine due to construction requirements after the 64 quake. I personally don't get worried until we start getting into the M8 range. My house has sat fine through M7.5's without a crack, she rides out M6.5's without even tipping the pictures.
