This is one of 9 songs John Mellencamp recorded at the famous Sun Studios in Memphis where IMO the best Elvis Presley music was recorded (Sun sessions). Sun was also the home of greats like Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash. John Mellencamp's new album 'No Better Than This', captures the great sounds of early rock and rockabilly.

It is all done live, in mono with one microphone. There were no overdubs - what they played is what we hear.

All the modern digital equipment and multi-track recordings can't match the sound of live in-studio. It is what spawned early Hi-Fi enthusiasts.

Great work John...love it!!

"Mystery Train" Recorded: July 11, 1955 (session 7) at Sun Studios was first released on August 20, 1955 as the B-side of "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" (Sun 223). Presley's version would be ranked #77 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list in 2003.
