I haven't seen that film for many years, but it was really funny. I remember his wife
played by Sandy Dennis with her deadpan expression and delivery. With each awful
thing happening to them on their disasterous trip, all she'd say was something like "what
now George"! Jack Lemmon was a great actor, and he's sadly missed.
I like that movie because they are portrayed as coming from my original hometown, Toledo. There's a scene where the city has completely beat them down, and all they have left is some kind of snack food and are sitting in a park, and a huge dog attacks and steals the food.
I always thought that the Neil Simon characters slightly inspired the "Doug and Wendy Whiner" skits on the old saturday night live:
