Restricting travel to Cuba is stupid.

How so, Ravi? Could you elaborate?

Marco Rubio, his opponent for the Senate seat and son of Cuban immigrants, thinks travel restrictions are a good idea.
What nugget of wisdom do you have on the issue?

This just looks like a vote-grab that flies in the face of common sense.

The aim of such restrictions is to end communism by making Cubans uncomfortable enough to have a revolution. So far...since around 1959ish...it hasn't exactly worked.

IMO, a free exchange of people between Cuba and the US would do more to facilitate the end of communism in Cuba.

I also don't really care if Cuba is communist...I'm not afraid of Castro even while I think he's an asshole dictator.

It's really time to stop pretending that communist regimes like Cuba can hurt the USA.

I agree. Cuba is no threat whatsoever to the U S. If they ever did something stupid..handling it would be nothing more than a training excercise for the Florida Air National Gaurd.

Not being a resident of Florida, I am not aware of any of Crists positions. Being a conservative, I am impressed with Rubios enthusiasm and strength.

I simply saw Crist as one that believes he is the man for the job. If he flip flopped, I am OK with that if there is good reason to flip flop. I admire a politician that allows debate to show him or her that they may be wrong. If he simply flip flopped for "funding" then he should suffer humiliation just like Spector.

You'd have to understand the demographics and mindsets of the bottom 1/2 of FL.
The entire central region is something akin to the "silent majority". It's almost impossible to judge.

Generally, the hard-liners are the Cuban immigrants who came over on the boat. Their children are about evenly split.

Republicans like Rubio have to say they are for restrictions because the old Cuban geezers are more rabid about their beliefs than the NRA is about gun rights. They are large enough to be an influential voting block in the state and can swing state-wide elections. But one day they will die off and this won't be a big issue.
