Indonesia’s armed forces have finally ended virginity tests as part of the recruitment process for women.

Last week, Indonesian armed forces spokesman Maj. Gen. Budiman announced that all three branches of the military – the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force – had “effectively ended virginity tests” for recruitment.

The military’s first actions against this practice began in June 2021 when then-Army Chief General Andika Perkasa issued an order to army commanders that female recruits should only be assessed on their ability to take part in physical training. He also ordered that the fiancées of male officers who applied for permission to get married no longer needed to get a medical check, including a “virginity test.”

But despite the Army’s order, the military said in August 2021 that “virginity tests” were still the rule, implying that the Navy and possibly the Air Force were unwilling to follow the Army’s ban.

In some countries the government requires virginity testing for females. In other countries the government outlaws virginity testing, even on a voluntary basis. What do you think of this practice?

I removed adjectives in the original news story I found on the internet that suggested disapproval of virginity testing.

Obviously the practise is "wrong" by what are assumed to be more enlightened tribes . Like us .
But what next?

Personality and IQ testing against defined objectives?
Agreement to attract as many sociopaths and psychopaths as possible ?
Or, completely the opposite -- get them chipped and re trained or kept separate ? Send them to the moon ?

Enlightenment is the conceit of those who are not as wise as they think they are.

It's a misogynist's dream.

VIRGINITY TESTING PRACTICES:THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDSSheila Mokoboto-ZwaneUniversity of South [email protected]

Controversy continues to surround the age-old practice of virginity testing, which in South Africa made a visible comeback around the time of the country’s first democratic elections when most South Africans began to feel free to practice their cultural beliefs without fear. It coincided with the period when the HIV pandemic began to take hold. It is practiced mainly in some countries of Asia and Africa, and in South Africa it is practiced mainly amongst amaZulu. It is believed that this practice prevents unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), especially HIV/AIDS, as well as engendering a sense of pride in teenage and young females, in particular...

Virginity testing refers to the practice of inspecting young girls to determine if they are sexually chaste...

As a result of this rampant HIV pandemic, virginity testing enjoys the distinction of being among the most popular public health initiatives in South Africa, and is unique in that it promotes a return to traditional culture as a public health prevention measure(George 2007). Nombulelo Madondo, who runs a virginity testing school in Inanda,Durban, in the KwaZulu-Natal province, said her school was opened because of the HIV pandemic. The aim was to protect the young maidens from having sex while they are young. The maidens are proud of being tested every month and they have even stated that virginity testing brings dignity to them and they are respected in the community (Chiliza and Mkhamisa 2013)...

There is evidence of virginity testing taking place in other countries outside SouthAfrica, such as in India, Turkey, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

In India, virginity and pregnancy tests were carried out on hundreds of brides ata mass marriage ceremony. Madhya Pradesh is the second largest state in Indiawith over 75 million inhabitants. The Madhya Pradesh government organizes the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna ceremony where about 450 women are subjected to virginity testing in the tribal district of Betul before they get married....

In 2001, Turkey’s health minister announced that midwives and nursing students were required to be virgins, and that testing would be used to ensure compliance. Those subjected to virginity testing include women who apply for certain government jobs; girls applying to attend specialized schools such as nursing school...

The findings from this article make several contributions to the current literature.Firstly, that there are good and bad elements of this practice when one considers the discourse above. Secondly, that clear guidelines are required from government, only after wide consultation with all stakeholders involved. A greater focus on virginity testing could produce interesting findings that account more for the reduction of HIV contracting and teenage pregnancy. In the interest of culture-sensitivity and the interest of dispelling ethnocentricism, the practice should be embraced and respected only if it takes on board elements that are good and safe, discarding those that are bad with negative consequences. One of the more significant contributions to emerge from this research is that where virginity testing is embraced and actually does work to promote the reduction of infections and teenage pregnancy, it should be encouraged

Wow, Hector, you are a big ball of sexual hangups.

The problem with "Virginity tests" is besides the puritanical nature of it, is that it's discriminatory. They don't do virgin tests for men. (They probably can't, how do you tell with a dude?)

Brelyn Bowman pledged to her father, Michael A. Freeman, the founder and pastor of the Spirit of Faith Christian Center in Maryland, that she would remain a virgin until marriage.

A Maryland bride presented her father with a "Certificate of Purity" at her wedding to prove she kept a promise she made to him as a 13-year-old.

Brelyn Bowman pledged to her father, Michael Freeman, the founder and pastor of the Spirit of Faith Christian Center in Maryland, that she would remain a virgin until marriage.

Brelyn, who married Timothy Bowman earlier this month, posted a photo a week ago of her dancing with her father at the wedding. In the caption she explained why she chose to give her father the certificate.

"Dancing with my first love. I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact," she said in the post. "Also, the covenant he gave me when I was 13. When you honor God, your life will automatically honor others! I love you, daddy."
