Freakin song makes me ball my eyes out! It is a great song.
I cry mostly because my Aunt's husband (married for only a year or so) who died in a car accident back in 2006, gave me this CD before he passed, because of this song specifically. I haven't listened to it in a long time.
Long story, but him and I had a rough start (misunderstandings about faith, my aunt and his relationship, too long to get into) and when we did talk about some of those differences, and when we both said we were sorry... he gave me this CD. Makes me cry so much, I wish I had gotten to know him better before he passed.
Thanks for posting.

A Poor Wayfaring Man Of Grief
A poor wayfaring Man of grief
Hath often crossed me on my way,
Who sued so humbly for relief
That I could never answer nay.
I had not pow'r to ask his name,
Whereto he went, or whence he came;
Yet there was something in his eye
That won my love; I knew not why.
Once, when my scanty meal was spread,
He entered; not a word he spake,
Just perishing for want of bread.
I game him all; he blessed it, break,
And ate, but gave me part again.
Mine was an angel's portion then,
For while I fed with eager haste,
The crust was manna to my taste.
I spied him where a fountain burst
Clear from the rock; his strength was gone.
The heedless water mocked his thirst;
He heard it, saw it hurrying on.
I ran and raised the suff'rer up;
Thrice from the stream he drained my cup,
Dipped and returned it running o'ver;
I drank and never thirsted more.
'Twas night; the floods were out; it blew
A winter hurricane aloof.
I heard his voice abroad and flew
To bid him welcome to my roof.
I warmed and clothed cheered my guest
And laid him on my couch to rest,
Then made the earth my bed and seemed
In Eden's garden while I dreamed.
Stript, wounded, beaten nigh to death,
I found him by the highway side.
I roused his pulse, brought back his breath,
Revived his spirit, and supplied
Wine, oil, refreshment he was healed.
I had myself a wound concealed,
But from that hour forgot the smart,
And peace bound up my broken heart.
In pris'n I saw him next, condemned
To meet a traitor's doom at morn.
The tide of lying tongues I stemmed,
And honored him 'mid shame and scorn.
My friendship's utmost zeal to try,
He asked if I for him would die.
The flesh was weak; my blood ran chill,
But my free spirit cried, 'I will!'
Then in a moment to my view
The stranger started from disguise.
The tokens in his hands I knew;
The Savior stood before mine eyes.
He spake, and my poor name he named,
'Of me thou hast not been ashamed.
These deeds shall thy memorial be;
Fear not, thou didst them unto me.'
it's easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky.

Hey Sky: I get and agree with the part of the message that
instead of seeking some future heaven beyond this life
you make the most of what is here and now we do have
and can do something about.
The part I don't get is WHY are people teaching that
spiritual peace on earth is "separate" or "opposed" to heaven?
What is wrong with accepting and receiving heaven on earth
in the here and now as one, not opposing concepts?
A Buddhist monk also criticized Christianity for teaching you have to
die physically to get to heaven instead of teaching the Kingdom of God
as peace among us today. I DO believe that receiving Christ means to
receive peace and establish truth and justice on earth in the here and now,
to bring heavenly peace on earth. This is not separate from living and being
peace as the goal in Buddhism either.
Why are we teaching this as separate or at odds with each other???
Isn't that the reason we don't have peace, we keep dividing and criticizing
and rejecting, instead of treating and accepting all ways as one process?
Anyway, I see that division going on, and that is the one thing
I regret about the song, it emphasizes some divisive or exclusive
interpretation of Christianity or heaven that misses the universal message.
I agree with the point of the song, but I believe
that IS what heaven in Christianity is pointing to!
Here are my comments in lyrical form:
Re-imagine
Imagine earth and heaven
Are like your heart and mind
At odds with one another
The story of mankind
Until the world discovers
Forgiveness
heals the pain
You may not believe in prayer
But in Christ our hearts are one
And what we ask to bring together
In truth and love it shall be done
Imagine no divisions
Between religious tribes
Of every race and color
Rejoined in Jesus Christ
Imagine all the branches
Building the Tree of Life
Who can say what's in our future
Until that future finally comes
But every day is painting a picture
Humanity becoming one
Where hearts and minds agree as one
And earth and heaven meet as one
it's easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky.
