The alternative is an urgent care facility or an emergency room, neither of which provide for a specialist. Typical wait is about 4 months for an appointment with an English speaking Yale (or similar) educated physician who is a specialist.

There is internship, board exams, certification, and a million other hoops they have to jump through before that happens. My kid is a new doctor, and imagining her making life and death decisions is a little overwhelming, especially after remembering the circus of teaching her how to drive. Chances are the young doctor you see has already seen hundreds or thousands of cases just like yours, and had a seasoned doctor there explaining all the important parts during most of them. Enough doctors to care for our medical needs doesn't have to be a problem

It makes it very clear just how desperate the doctor shortage is.
