Right now our political-cultural life is essentially split into two factions - Left and Right and we see that play out in politics and culture and religion and education and essentially every facet of life.

Now if you want to participate in this thread, I want you to refrain from a Left versus Right battle in commentary and instead focus on this question:

Imagine a society where every (Liberal) (Conservative) disappeared or moved away and all that was left were (Liberals) (Conservatives), how do you imagine sides would form up in that world? Who would the bitter enemies be for each faction?
I'm hoping that people focus more on their own compatriots rather than what they imagine might take place on the other side of the spectrum because people tend to know their neck of the woods with more detail.

Any takers?

THIS => "Imagine a society where every (Liberal) (Conservative) disappeared or moved away and all that was left were (Liberals) (Conservatives), how do you imagine sides would form up in that world? Who would the bitter enemies be for each faction?"

Makes no sense. If all liberals and conservatives disappeared and/or moved away, then how could it be that all that is left would be liberals and/or conservatives?

Do you mean, imagine a world where everyone thought the same as you do about all issues?

Pick one from the first option offered, then discuss the remaining one from the second option. Every Conservative moves away or disappears and all that was left were Liberals, . . .

He means a society where every liberal is gone or a society where every conservative is gone. He is right, there would be some in-house fighting. I have to think about this one.

Any group of individuals will eventually split into two or more factions. Like the example if we ever got rid of all evil leaving just all good, eventually the good would split into more-good, and less-good, the less-good becomming the new "evil." Opposition is thus natural and perhaps even necessary. Religion's a good illustration. After Jesus came and went you'd think there'd be just one version of religion but Christianity has split and split and split again countless times.

Your question is obviously too high brow for this board.

Initially, a society of all Liberals would look more like Europe, while a society of all Conservatives would look a lot like the U.S. in the 1950's (absent segregation). Eventually, both would move towards what we have today, since money and power are the underlying motives of most politics.

In any society the have nots wage war against who they perceive are the haves.

If by 'conservative' you mean 'moderate Republican', and by 'liberal' you mean 'moderate Democrat'.

If 'conservatives' had an absolute majority, then probably:

1) Same-sex marriage would be rolled back, and replaced with civil unions that provide the same rights as marriage, which was essentially Romney's stance.
2) Flat taxes would become the norm, and taxes at the top income brackets would decrease further.
3) There would be a private insurance system, if you can't afford cover then you have to rely on healthcare from charities and state programs.
4) Social welfare will be cut back, though public education funding will probably remain the same.
5) Deporting illegal immigrants will be attempted, possibly there would be ID checks and legislation making it easier to deport illegal immigrants.
6) Religious education would be more readily allowed in public schools, and bible study would become a part of most classroom curriculums.
7) Abortions would be restricted to cases of rape, and those that could afford abortions (but couldn't get one due to strict US abortion laws) would get it done discretely in Canada, Europe, and even Mexico.

If 'liberals' had an absolute majority, then probably:

1) Discriminating against LGBT people would become illegal and would be treated like discrimination on race, also same-sex couples would be able to adopt.
2) 'Progressive taxes' would be implemented, where the higher income brackets pay the most percentage of tax, and the less you earn determines your tax code.
3) The ACA would eventually be replaced with a universal healthcare system akin to those in Europe, or at the very least a system equivalent to that in Canada.
4) Social welfare programs will be expanded, and public education spending would increase.
5) Illegal immigrants will be given continual amnesty, and social welfare and education programs would be pressured by the strain.
6) Religious education would be equivalent to what is allowed in blue states, though schools would be encouraged/pressured to include a curriculum with multiple religions where religion is taught.
7) Abortion would become more readily accessible, and would be made affordable for those on lower incomes.

I expect there would be contentous politics in the area of foreign policy. An all "liberal" society could still propel a government into a Vietnam War type of situation, while also engendering a fervent anti-war movement in that society.

Humans need opponents and struggle to evolve.
Humans are flawed creatures.
Every human is different and has a different perspective on life.

I think alliances and "us-them" dynamics would still develop...over WHAT? who knows? Some of the same issues as now, no doubt.

Thank for thinking that through but you misread my question. Which liberal faction would develop to fight another liberal faction or which conservative faction would develop to fight another conservative faction?

Why would an all-liberal world need anti-discrimination legislation? Isn't it just big-bad conservatives who discriminate? In a society of angelic liberals, no one would discriminate against anyone else, so would a faction develop which wanted to erase all anti-discrimination legislation because now only angels are left in society and would big government advocates arise to block them because they don't want to see the power of government diminished even though no one ever discriminates about anything or anyone anymore because everyone is an enlightened liberal?

Then why isn't Europe moving in the conservative direction?

I'm stating that your "All you liberals think all other liberals are always perfect" spiel is a dishonest strawman, one that you depend on heavily.

So which faction within liberalism wants to discriminate against people?

None. But there will always be individuals who discriminate.

If you have problems understanding the concepts of individuality and acting independently from a political faction, any of the liberals here will be happy to explain it to you.
