Not too puzzling if you put it all in context. Just my opinion here but I think the Democrats have shown themselves to be more or less useless except for opposing anything Bush tries to do, people get down on Republicans lately and to some extent for good reason, but they are still seen as the party trying to do the right thing and staying the course, to me that translates as the stronger, leadership party.
Yup, you got it. They will save the GOP from themselves!
Lets hope (crosses fingers)
What do you expect dems to "do" when they have no power in Congress and can't even get hearing rooms when they want one or have the lights shut out on them when they actually get a little room in the basement?
I think I hear "that" tune, and see Rod Serling in the corner. The sad truth is, the Republicans have continually reacted to the Dems as if the Dems were still the ones with the power. They still hold up Congress at will when the Repblicans could steamroll them if they'd grow the 'nads.
son of a bitch! Have you caught them on judiciary? On budget? They have not one whit of problem on blocking the most innocent, much less anything political. Get. Real. Read Robert's Rules of Order, trust me, Durbin knows chapter and verse.
That's the way it goes in politics. When Dems had control, Republicans were told to sit down and shutty. What the Democrats could do now is support things they do agree with, which to be fair a few have done in small measure, but mostly they just whine, complain, and go after Bush purely for political reasons. Americans as a whole are too savvy not to see that. Add to that the promise made by Pelosi, and Durbin that when they gain control of the house in 2006 they will make it their priority to impeach Bush. That tells me everything I need to know about them.
