If you think it’s all about the “Economy”, think again.

Well that was pretty much the era that federalization of the USA really kicked into gear.

So I guess they're talking like mid 18th century?

That must have been a swell time. Cripes, they didn't even have flush toilets back then.

But we had slaves to empty the bedpans.
None of those silly labor laws and socialistic crap like that.

Do you really know what life was like back then. There is a reason life expectancy was 30 or 40 years old back then. Disease, accidents, no labor laws, child labor, hard hard work for a pittance. ratholes for houses, rancid meat to eat and more. Life was not the pleasant life you live now. Take away the electricity and how many people could survive 30 days?

But you are just talking about reviving the supremacy of the white man, taking away the rights non-whites and women have now. That is your right as an individual in this country to think the way you want and to say what you want. Many non-whites and women died for that right too and are fighting today to keep thsoe rights for you. We are all human beings, the same species. Sure we have differant cultures, different religions and we do not look the same but in the end we all are born from a woman, live and and die.

I notice a trend with the left.... whenever they can't respond to genuine, proven, factual statements... they move the discussion to the standard "what country is it they want to go back to. It has always been a strawman and it continues to be a strawman. No one, not one solitary person have I heard say we want to return to some bygone day. We want the country back... not to take it back in time. Be accurate or get another game. Because you lost this one.

That's bullshit!

When they say they want their country back, they're implying that they remember a better time.

When was that?

C'mon, this is the third time I've asked this simple question. Surely you have some idea of when it was better.

And if you can't anwer that, just say "I don't know."

I answered that for you, Clean, previously. It was a better time....I can't believe you would think that we have reached the pinnacle under this president.

You didn't answer shit. When was the better time?

Apparently, you either don't read, or you don't comprehend. That's on your shoulders not mine. :eusa_whistle:

Apparently not you, but that's not surprising, "zzzz".....now go back to sleep.

[*]We is an inclusive word but you seem to be exclusive. Since you say that I am not one of your WE's and I am an American what does that make you?

If your not in agreement with the post which you were referring to when asking "Who is we?" It must not be you.....your good with this administration, I on the other hand am not and am all for taking our country back.

PS. What with the red posts. Mods use that color when they are doing official moderating. Are you a wannabe ?

No I am not good with Obama but he was elected and no I did not vote for him. I beleive all Americans no matter what the race, religion or creed have the same rights to live where they want to live and it seemed you were taking those rights from them.

The red was spur of the moment highlighting and I really wanted orange not red.

We want OUR country back! What do you think that means?

We mean the way the the government was origianlly intended to be. Unobtrusive and limited. That is the way the country once was. THAT is what we mean by we want our country back.

And when was that?

C'mon, give me a decade.

Nice attempt at de-railing the point, but I won't bite. The federal government has been swelling and swelling and swelling for some time. Idiotic regulation after idiotic regulation that stifles entrepreneurship. A budget that is bankrupting the country. Both parties have had the failures, I just see liberalism as worse because it's an ideology that pretty much demands a large, heavily regulatory central government. That is what the framers intended the change did not occur overnight or at one specific point in time though certain points in history can be pointed to that certainly exacerbated it (FDR).

No, it wasn't me wanting to take away any rights from any citizen of this great country. Some on here are trying to infer that that is what the right wants to do. It's an epic fail on their parts, ZZZZ.

I don't buy into rdean's OP (in fact, I think its really silly), but Mr.Clean is asking a legitimate question:

When you say "We Want Our Country Back!" it implies that:

1. At one point you felt you "had" your country.
2. Someone took it from you.

Number 1 up there leads to a very specific question: When was the last time you "had" your country? It isn't a strawman.

Number 2 is also very valid, as it tends to tell weed out the partisan hacks from the principled voters.

The question has been answered in the previous pages. We want our country back to less government involvement in our lives.

At one time we DID 'have' our country and the someones who took it from us are the politicians, by continually growing and expanding government's reach.

Ahh you are speaking of the new deal?

Which Hoovwer dam is just one result of that deal which Americans are still benefitting greatly from.

That has to be one weak retort for justifying FDR's liberal views, UScitizen.

At least there's one honest person on this board that can at least come up with a simple answer to a simple question.

we've never recovered from viet nam or watergate, imo, and it has very little to do with skin color, budget deficits or mandatory health insurance, imo- it's an attitudinal thang.

It was the windowpane man! It was bad.

When I hear that, I wonder what era they want to go back to.

What is their idealized version of their country?

No we are not. We are implying that the law of the land, the constitution set up a certain kind of government and that our country was founded under certain principles. It isn't a reference to a time, it's a reference to an idea.

Trying to entertain you by going on a tangent about this date or that date is irrelevant. It is a cop out on your part to avoid having a discussion about why YOU seem to think a heavily regulatory, centralized government is so great.

I've seen maybe 1 specific answer (del's), a lot of cliche answers, and one blatantly partisan one.

That's really cliche to say, and very non-specific. Let's get into it. When was the last time that the American people really owned their country? Why? When specifically was it "stolen" from you?

This "We Want Our Country Back!" business is the kind of touchy-feely reasoning that Conservatives accuse liberals of indulging in. So lets make this a reasoned argument.

Hoover Dam? That's your evidence that the new deal was a good thing? At my age I can tell you a couple things I am paying for from the new deal but won't get any benefit from; SS and medicare.

Broadly the new deal ushered in an era where government seemed to think it was it's job to fix things, but didn't understand that government isn't very good at fixing things. Generally the more they try to fix things, the worse they get. That is why we want to go to the country outlined in the constitution where the government has very limited responsibilites.

where would the American SW be today without the water and aqueducts and electricity provided by Hoover dam?

Best guess? A private company would have done it eventually and probably for less money.

Now YOU answer some simple questions?

Does our current governement reflect the government outlined by the constitution?

Why do you seemingly prefer a heavily regulatory central government?
