Hey, if regular taxi cabs have to pay taxes for road use, why should Uber and Lyft drivers be exempt? They should be taxed like taxis are, they do the same job.

It doesn't work like that. There are very few (if any) public transportation that actually pay for itself, so the loss of ridership causes a high need for more taxes.
Which is what makes the whole thing ridiculous. We have a system that enough people aren’t willing to pay enough money to use to at least make it revenue neutral but we pay the employees high wages, full benefits and retirement to provide the service. Let Uber do it.

And lower demand results in higher fees in the case of public transportation. Which is better? Uber of course. If the demand is so high more people will start driving for them and the price goes down. In government the price only goes up.
