See the problem with Union negotiations! They are similar to collectivist thinking. One for all and all for one. Basically they want Caterpillar to commit to raises for everyone, instead of merit raises on individuals. That is the BETTER method, but these PRIVELEGED workers demand more! They don't care that Caterpillar has seen a slow down in China, Europe and Brazil. Doesn't matter to the colectivist! Not a bit!
Then they complain about having to pay more for health benefits. I complainted to when it happened to me, but than again I didn't vote for Obama, like these Union goons did. Obaminationcare is a flawed program. It says no preexisting conditions on anyone saying the added costs to the insurance companies will be offset by forcing healthy people to get insurance. Ya right! What Obaminationcare is doing is raising insurance costs and premiums on EVERYONE! Companies and WORKERS are having to pay more.
Caterpillar knew it was coming so they planned two things: (1) Get the replacement workers in place (from what I heard in the local news, applications poured in and keep pouring in from around the country) and (2) Start building a plant in a business and tax friendly state and get the hell out of IL (see GA below).
Ask their Union brothers in Canada what unjust and boneheaded striking got them? Pink Slips! Closed a 62 year old plant and got it relocated to Indiana, where 250 Canadian jobs were lost and 250 American jobs were found!
Canada workers unjustly strike forcing Caterpillar to close the 62 year old plant, lay off everyone and move the plant to the Indiana! Oh Cannnnnaaaada!
Mentioned on the local news where the 800+ jobs will move to!

IAM workers strike at Caterpillar's Joliet plant - Yahoo! News
Caterpillar has responded to the strike by bringing in replacement workers so that it can continue meeting production schedules as planned, spokesman Rusty Dunn said on Tuesday. The workers on strike produce hydraulic components and systems for a variety of Caterpillar machines, including track-type tractors, wheel loaders and mining trucks.
The labor dispute comes as Caterpillar is racing to fill growing demand in North America and in the global mining sector. While the company has experienced a slowdown in China, Europe and Brazil, it is relying on its strength in North America and its mining business to offset that weakness.
IAM's strike also follows a high-profile labor dispute that took place late last year between Caterpillar and the Canadian Auto Workers at a locomotive plant in London, Ontario. CAW workers voted down a Caterpillar offer, and the company ended up closing the plant and moving the work elsewhere.
On Monday, Jones told Reuters that Caterpillar's recent offer was rejected because it calls for "wage stagnation" over the next six years and higher health care premiums.

Caterpillar Closes Plant in Canada After Lockout - WSJ.com
MUNCIE, Ind.Bulldozing its way through a high-profile dispute over wages, Caterpillar Inc. said Friday it will close a 62-year-old plant in London, Ontario, that makes railroad locomotives, eliminating about 450 manufacturing jobs that mostly paid twice the rate of a U.S. counterpart.
Caterpillar's decision, ending a standoff with locked-out workers huddled around barrels of burning scrap wood outside the London factory gates, may benefit another downtrodden manufacturing city: Muncie, Ind., where Caterpillar last year opened a locomotive plant and where it is trying to fill jobs at about half the pay workers in Ontario received. At a job fair in Muncie Saturday, Caterpillar will be offering jobs at that plant at wages ranging from $12 to $18.50 per hour
