Outlaw all weapons other than those needed by the Iraqi government. If anyone is seen with any weapon they are shot on sight. If you are found guilty of insurgency you die. If you have anything that looks suspicious, it is taken from you. It's time to crack down on these assholes.

No, no no. The terrorists have illegal weapons anyway. Loosen the gun laws so that terrorists are shot on site by civilians.

Or the civilians can join their police force and get paid for killing raghead terrorists.

So, you're saying "Gun Control?"

Lol @ gun control. Doesn't work in (relatively) peaceful american cities, surely won't work in Baghdad. Actually, I think we've already done some house-to-house weapons sweeps, haven't we? No wonder they want us gone.

Well, people have weapons but most of the damage is being done by the homemade bombs... guns aren't really the issue.

.... just sayin'

That won't work. We're already in too deep. Keep going to course we're going because changing to a stronger tactic now will only turn the people against us. If we were going to go in hard it shouldve been from the begining.

Is not one weapon allowed per Iraqi household presently?

Finding ‘the bad guys’ has to be a bounty thing. Rather than spend a full 40% of our American tax dollars for security to build hospitals, schools, police stations and such (which - to make it a real democracy is absolutely essential), use part of those dollars to pay informants to turn the bastards in.

We offer rewards here in the States for such things and with the unemployment at the rate it is in Iraq - it would give the guys on the street something to do, rather than be paid by the insurgents to plant IED’s or act as lookouts.

How long do you think an informant would last in Iraq?

Compared with someone eyeballed by our kids in the middle of the night digging a hole for an IED? An eternity.

Is it a complete waste of time trying to get a reasonable response from you?

That has been my experience. If you ask a valid question, he will either ignore it, but call him asshole and he'll call you one back. ;)

Again - I don’t think paying informants is such an unreasonable way to go. Do we not pay newspapers in Iraq to print favorable stories?

Is living not hard enough over there without making yourself a target by taking money for info?Besides should those willing do to so not just join the police force instead? At least they receive a regular income.

True - but do not police stations enjoy car bombings, on a regular basis. If a court system comes about - like we have here in the States - rewards could be given upon conviction. An incentive for the entire populace to participate in "policing". Better than wearing a uniform, being kidnapped and ending up with your throat slit out in the dessert some place.

Many suspected informants are murdered every day over there, do you seriously think they are going to be willing to testify in court? At least the police officers have made a conscious and brave decision to at least try to bring some kind of order to their country.

But isn’t that the hallmark of democracy - taking back the streets from total anarchy? All the police in the world do not make a civilized society - it takes everyday citizens to drive out these types of thugs and bring them to justice.

Simplistic, and Hobbit is correct. If you outlaw all guns, only law-abiding citizens will abide the law; thereby, redering themselves defenseless. Terorists/criminals are ALREADYT violating the law by committing murder.

You don't think adding "unlawfully carrying a gun" to murder charges is going to phase them, do you?

My memory may be faulty, but I seem to remember reading that paying informants has created problems for us in Afghanistan. We pay money for the names of terrorists, and then people see an opportunity to make profits and see their enemies arrested in street sweeps and possibly tortured in prison. Not a great way to endear ourselves to the locals.

I would imagine that weapons are outlawed with out being made officially 'illegal'. The fact that terrorists do not make themselves visible makes any Iraqi a potential terrorist in the minds of soldiers. In an environment like that, no individual found with a gun is going to be allowed to keep it.

how to know who to shoot.......

if they run they are terrorists and should be shot

if the stand still they are well disciplined terrorists and should be shot
