    CBP Officers at Laredo Port of Entry Seize $826,000 in Heroin from Honduran Man

    Laredo, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry recently seized more than $800,000 in alleged heroin from a Honduran citizen residing in Georgia.

    The seizure occurred on September 14, at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge. A CBP officer conducting examinations in the pedestrian primary lanes referred a 52-year-old male Honduran citizen from Marietta, Ga. with a resident alien card, for a secondary examination. In secondary, CBP officers conducted a closer examination and discovered two packages hidden under his clothing containing a total of 8.26 pounds of alleged heroin. The heroin had an estimated street value of $826,000.

    CBP officers turned the pedestrian over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.

    “Our frontline CBP officers employed their inspection skills, technology, canines, vigilance, and perseverance which paid off with a significant seizure of hard narcotics,” said Sidney Aki, CBP Port Director, Laredo.

    U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
