The Associated Press: Early data shows strong Black Friday shopping

Sales during the day after Thanksgiving rose 3 percent to $10.6 billion, according to preliminary figures released Saturday by ShopperTrak RCT Corp.

Under these circumstances, it's truly amazing when you think about all the news that led into the holiday season, it certainly appears that consumers are willing to spend more than most expected," said ShopperTrak co-founder Bill Martin

Holiday sales show gains, but retailers still cautious - Nov. 30, 2008

The National Retail Federation (NRF), an industry trade group, said shoppers spent $41 billion in the 4-day Thanksgiving weekend. The average shopper spent $372.57, up 7.2% from the $347.55 spent last year

Personally, I do most of my shopping on line.

But a little survey here. How much are you going to budget for Christmas presents this year?

My wife and I agreed on $350 for each other. In reality it probably means closer to $500. I'll give $100 to my son and we'll probably spend another 300 on gifts for my mother in law, and a few friends.

So my estimate is about $1400 and definitely less than $1800

Hard to tell.

Depends on how much my next fuel bill is.

Not much, either way.
