Clinton raps vouchers
BY GLENN THRUSH
WASHINGTON BUREAU

February 22, 2006

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton slammed private-school voucher proposals yesterday, predicting that vouchers would eventually lead to the creation of taxpayer-financed white supremacist academies - or even a government-funded "School of the Jihad."

Clinton, a longtime voucher foe who earned the backing of the city teachers union in 2000, says government financing of sectarian groups would incite ethnic and religious conflict - and encourage fringe groups to demand government cash to run their schools.

President George W. Bush has long favored laws that require states to provide vouchers, a position that earned him the allegiance of conservative Christian groups that have clamored for public education dollars.

"First family that comes and says 'I want to send my daughter to St. Peter's Roman Catholic School' and you say 'Great, wonderful school, here's your voucher,'" Clinton said. "Next parent that comes and says, 'I want to send my child to the school of the Church of the White Supremacist ...' The parent says, 'The way that I read Genesis, Cain was marked, therefore I believe in white supremacy. ... You gave it to a Catholic parent, you gave it to a Jewish parent, under the Constitution, you can't discriminate against me.'"

As an adoring, if somewhat puzzled, audience of Bronx activists looked on, Clinton added, "So what if the next parent comes and says, 'I want to send my child to the School of the Jihad? ... I won't stand for it."

The former first lady said that vouchers would also accentuate divisions, singling out government-financed Protestant and Catholic schools in Northern Ireland and similar arrangements in the Netherlands as examples of poorly functioning systems.

She spoke during a breakfast at the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp., where she denounced Bush administration cuts to community development programs, offered advice to minority and women business owners and vowed to help bring more broadband access to the South Bronx.

Andrew Coulson, who works on education issues for the conservative Cato Institute, differed on the voucher issue, saying, "It's misleading because under federal law no one would be permitted to open a school that advocates violence against the country."

Hillary has proved to me that she is not capable of the job of President already. The toughest job in the world is President of our country. If Hillary wanted to demonstrate the slighest real qualification she would go on Fox News and allow Snow or Hume to chew her up and spit her out onto the floor of Studio B.

The decisions that W has had to make rival that of any person in history as to degree of difficulty.

Why would anyone trust an individual who sits in the Senate Chamber and makes ugly faces while the President of the United States of America is speaking. God forgive me for what I hope would happen to her if she ran for President.

I don't understand her reasoning against vouchers. To have the threat of white supremecist and jihad schools taking over the nation, there would have to be so many parents desiring to have their children educated in that fashion. Is she seriously trying to equate parochial schools with Taliban madrassas?

The key here is, that even her adoring audience, is puzzled. As indeed, most of America, at exactly what Ms. Clinton thinks. :boobies:

It appears to me, that the disconnect between the real world, and the world that the liberal`s live in are growing further apart.

I say, LET HER TALK, she`ll continue to make a fool out of herself, and scare more right thinking voter`s away.

Hillary is a left wing Socialist, Mom. Her reasoning is simple and fits her political position perfectly. The intent is to maintain control of the population through fear, which if unsuccessful, would result in change and lose of control.

This is a high stakes issue/priority for these folks. If they lose control, the people will have choices which will hinder the overall dumbing down of the population, and thus their control.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Mr.P. I guess I understood WHAT she was trying to do, but I can't understand why she thinks the people are so incredibly stupid as to buy her ideas, once they are truly revealed.

Guess that's why she's so quiet most of the time.

See that's the deal...If the people are stupid, stupid policy and fear will rule. So, losing control of education is a disaster for these folks.

It works too, look at how many times the Dems have told old people they would lose their SSI if x was elected. Or, "they" will cut your benifits, etc.

Fear is a powerful weapon, and a great smoke screen for true intent, they use it every time they can.

I thought her little speech about vouchers hillaryous and fearmongering in a pukey way. :puke3:

Hillaryous because she is taking a stance totally opposite the liberal mantra of allowing for "multiculturalism". She is effectively saying that all kids should attend the public school system and there should be no other type of school. Parents would not be allowed to use their share of money for sending their kids to parochial schools or any other type if they wanted. Liberals are against home study as well.

Fearmongering because it is obvious she was attempting to convey to us "little people" (in her elitist talk-down manner) the idea that white supremicists and jihadist schools would be the result of vouchers. (ooooh, we're scared) She is talking about some very fringe elements that can be kept under control by other laws against subversive activities. The real threat of vouchers is to liberals because parents would be able to choose other schools than the scholastically-failing, liberal-controlled propaganda outlets called public schools.

Vouchers will have the effect of creating competition in the "school market". It means there will be more choice and better schools (including the public ones that get with the program) will result as parents get to choose the school they send their kids to. Hey, I thought libs liked "choice". :D
