I think everyone can agree the department of education is very bad at what it does. We can also probably agree that throwing cash at kids with no results has proven to be a bad idea. Teachers are not respected by a large portion of the public, and are viewed as babysitters. Athletic facilities are always top notch and a high priority. This one hurts because I love sports, and I enjoyed playing them. Every five years, a brilliant bureaucrat will try to completely change things. Many teachers and departments face an annual battle to save their departments. They are constantly threatened to be fired. I'm not sure how the property tax mess funds public schools, but I've heard enough that it means poor districts can't even have toilet paper in their bathrooms. No TP really, really annoys me. We also have teachers forced to teach kids how to take a test that in no way affects their future. I believe teacher's hands are tied in many ways about what and how they teach their subject. To add insult to injury, kids are not even given basic knowledge of our own constitution. I'll admit I'm not smart enough to know what to do with this stinking pile of crap, I'm sure there is someone with an idea that is light years better than what we have, and I'd love to hear it. I'm not hopeful however, because it seems like society looks down on teachers.
