A suburban St. Louis police officer who was shot and critically injured during a traffic stop has been identified ..... Flamion was shot from behind Friday while walking to his patrol car. He was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.... Flamion is white, and the suspect, 31-year-old parolee Antonio Taylor, is black. Race is less limiting than appearance of cleanliness. Same young children were used to seek help from strangers. Dressed in gungy cloths and dressed in someone cleaner and hair brushed. Those with a clean appearance readily were helped while those that looked less put together were often ignored.
Race did not matter or age.

Dress like gang member, you will be treated like one. Brush yourself up and you are treated better. Clean somewhat matched outfits can be from the thrift store. If you look like you crawled out from underground, other will instinctively keep you at arms length. Much is learned but race is not the main barrier as some would have people believe. Dirty is seen as inferior more than race. Men want to get ahead in the world, a hair cut, clean clothes and properly used belt will more easily get your through the door than dirty torn clothes with pants hung down to your knees instead of your waist. Polo shirt is better than a "wife-beater" Pants better than shorts or torn jeans. Clothes that fit you rather than over sized and baggy.
Learning to speak properly and politely in any situation.

Many small things can turn around attitudes. Sex, age, even education can be less important. Even the way you walk can matter. Stand straight instead slumped. Don't hide face or eye with hats and hoods. Move them off the face when you speak with others. Be calm and don't keep looking around in fear. Don't raise your voice without good cause.

Dressed like Huck Finn and you won't get ahead. Clean up a bit and you can stand the equal of most people. Women, homeless, abused, even the mentally ill are able to get a good outfit and cleaned up with hair cut. Women can get make-up and even some simple jewelry to present themselves for job interviews. Some place will even tailor the clothes so they fit better. It is how you present yourself not what race you are.

It is the same ideas as "no shirt, no shoes, no service". Walk with dignity, you will be treated with dignity. Look and behave like a feral cat and people will keep their distance.
