So, what is a “health care” company? How do they make their money?

The bean-counters surmise that they can rake in a lot more money from fees than they will need to pay out to doctors and hospitals and drug companies. They wager that the money they take in will enable them to – save for future payouts when people age? No. To pay out multi-million dollar bonuses to the creeps in charge today. It’s a feeding frenzy, and grandma is on the menu, as are you.

Actually, the way the health insurance companies were operating before the ACA was quite like a casino. Basically they wored off an algorithm that predicted the risk of a customer costing them money by using more than the premiums they paid. If they concluded that it was likely that a customer was to get sic and be costly they simply dropped them from the service. It is a great way to make money to collect from the healthy on the idea they might pay out if you get sick, but if you have to pay to treat a person that could cause the health care casino to lose money.

For this purpose they enlisted the help of doctors who are reliant on the health care company allowing it's customers to visit them. The doctors helped them by maing up terms for people that might one day require expensive healthcare, but were not sic. Precancer and prediabetic are common terms the doctors used to label people with a statistical likelihood of developing an illness so the insurance company could drop them before they became responsible for the bills. If you are a person diagnosed with precancer or prediabetes you are not actually sick, or in need of any treatment. it simply means you have those diseases in your family and could someday claim. If you were actually sic they would treat you for it, but when you get diagnosed with this sort of thing doctors will not treat you because there is nothing wrong with you.

That's the way is should work. Insurance should cover surprises, not the expected. Insurance companies should be allowed to factor in anything they want, in their actuary tables. That is how to get the fairest and cheapest insurance rate.

But, our government isn't about fair and cheap, or preserving freedom. It's about robbing from the responsible to subsidize the irresponsible, at any cost.
