Haiti definitely is a shithole. Hundreds of countries have poured a shitload of money down that shithole for decades and it's still has all the ambiance of an outhouse. Compare it to the country that borders it, which is the Dominican Republic: They actually make shoes, t-shirts, and other shit that I can use there.

But what does Haiti have besides AIDS, voodoo chicken head rituals, and hurricanes? Nothing that I'd be interested in unless I needed a hole to shit in.
