Happy St Georges Day

Happy St George's Day!

Was it today? Do you guys celebrate it in similar fashion as Americans celebrate St Patrick's Day (drinking and partying)?
They dont do anything. The educated classes steer clear because they dont want to be thought of as neo nazis. Its a real shame that english patriotism has been hijacked.
English patriotism is outlawed, retard.

You inbred hicks declared the English flag to be a "hate symbol".
Do you know anything about the UK ?

Yes,time for us to celebrate the best that England has given the World.

Jane Austen

WM Thackeray

William Blake

Clement Atlee

Dads Army

Nicholas Winton

Stan Laurel

Gilbert and Sullivan

Titus Salt

Charles Dickens

Ray Davies

The Pankhursts

Robin Hood

Arthur Daley

The Titfield Thunderbolt

JB Priestley

All of these people have made the world a better place.

Pardon! William Shakespeare!!

And Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

Shakespeare was anti Welsh and tried to demonise the heroic Owain Glyndwr.

He fails on that count.

Tennyson might creep in but it isnt a purely meritocratic list.

I'm sorry, Shakespeare is England if anyone is. The greatest writer that ever lived. You can't leave him out or bollocks on your list! :slap:

I think IF by Rudyard Kipling was voted favorite poem in England recently was it not? Any list can be added to or subtracted from. I'd put Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins on such a list of English notables.

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

I keep that poem close to the fore at all times. No doubt that England has produced some of the greats of the human race.

You missed out Milton. He was Blakes hero. Blind amongst his enemies. A giant.

muzzies do not like Saint George
Was St. George the one who killed all the snakes in Ireland? Or did he slay the dragon? Yes, it was the dragon--I remember seeing the picture now. Symbolic of killing what? We didn't really have dragons then.
St George was a Greek chap apparently.

England has given the world so much. The English should celebrate the best of themselves and not let football hooligans hijack their flag.
You also forgot Earl Grey Tea on your list.
I don't have a clue what you're talking about with the soccer stuff, but the English are okay in my book.

In London, I went to the Twinings shop. Thought id died and gone to heaven because I finally found all my fave teas - like Lap Sang Su Chong and yeah, I probably misspelled the tea andbTwinings but y'all get the idea.

They were kind enough to ship all of it to me and it got home before I did.

Thanks for this thread Tommy.
