This brings up one of my pet peeves. Why is government in the home insurance business? Why are taxpayer dollars being spent to compensate those who CHOOSE to live in high risk areas. Millionaires with palatial beach houses and people with homes on flood plains are paid with money stolen from you and me. Seems to me that if you choose to live in places prone to natural disasters, you should bear the responsibility and expense associated with that location. If the commercial insurance industry charged Floridians on the basis of risk, watch how fast the building codes for new construction would be updated to make homes more resistant to high winds. But with the government stepping in to cover their butts - why bother? Another example of government gone crazy. Now we have Medicaid for houses. Oh goodie.
