GOP bill would allow Michigan legislature to intervene in court cases
Updated Nov 30; Posted Nov 30

Michiganders in November voted in a Democrat as Michigan's top cop, but a bill introduced in the state House Thursday would empower the GOP-held Legislature in the courtroom.

If passed, House Bill 6553 would authorize both houses of the Legislature "to intervene in any action commenced in any court of this state whenever the Legislature or a house of the Legislature deems such intervention necessary in order to protect any right or interest of this state, or of that body."

The bill is seen by Democrats as a way to weaken the attorney general's office, which has fallen out of GOP control for the first time since 2002.

We will have a GOP state congress in both houses like we have had since 2012. Now they want to intrude on court cases, since we elected an Atty Gen who is a dem female. If Snyder signs this the newly elected Gov Whitmer needs to sign an executive order to repeal it.

They are also anti the SOS, since we have had a GOP one since 1995, anti the Attn General since we have had a GOP one since 2002.

We also have had a GOP controlled Senate since 1984.

Any right or interest would be in the GOP 's train of thought which is why they now want say so over the Attn General and I imagine over the State Supreme Court as well.

Goodbye, Michigan. A bunch of Democrats at the helm now. Soon enough you'll remember what a train wreck that is and regret it....but not soon enough to forestall the economic disaster that will ensue, for sure.

What a state full of dummies.

Sounds like you have no problem if the legislature of a state makes the judicial system partisan.

Well, the same can be said of you having no problem with the partisan judicial interfering with lawful executive decisions!

You mean the courts ruling against Trump's anti constitutional bills. I can assume that is what you mean.

Yes, s
For instance some dummie in the ninth district rules against a lawful executive action, forcing it to the Supreme Court. Then the SCOTUS rules that it was lawful. The judicial malfeasance costs the taxpayers a whole lot of money but you wouldn’t care about that at all would you? Just so you can get your agenda through. Now you want to whine that the shoe is on the other foot and it pinches! Ha!

This could be a good thing since all laws are started and passed at State level for State Laws. Many of the cases involve INTENT of the the law making Government Body which is the Legislature to start with. Might be a good idea that the U S Congress would adopt a similar Law.

Yet another example of the right’s contempt for the rule of law and separation of powers.

It’s also another example of how partisan, petty, and childish most Republicans are.
