    I'd hate to see the Smithsonian close again. As long as they keep my benefits going shut 'er down.

    I think it would be great. Shut everything down and don't reopen anything unless it is absolutely needed.

    Unfortunately the Smithsonian would have to stay closed until there is a surplus.

    Well, a majority of Americans seem to agree with Gingrich.

    In another thread I started here today, a Quinnipiac Poll indicates that 46% think a government shutdown is good, while 44% say it's a bad thing.

    Isn't it quite obvious that the overwhelming majority of Americans want Congress to tighten our budgetary belt?

    With that in mind, the people will easily see that the Republicans are attempting to do just that and the Democrats are willing to have a shut down to oppose it.

    So the Republicans will come out of it looking better than the Democrats.
