An announcement is expected sometime in the fall on whether the U.S. Supreme Court will decide just exactly who is a “natural born citizen” as required by the U.S. Constitution for all those who would be president.

Expecting the SCOTUS to address the question is not too much to ask for. It won’t influence the election in November, but a precise definition is much desired for the future.

Two rising stars in the Republican party, Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal, would benefit immensely if the High Court says every individual born on US soil is eligible regardless of the citizenship of their parents. Rubio and Jindal are no worse off than they are today if the decision goes the other way.

Most importantly, a no-wiggle-room decision releases the Eligibility Clause from Limbo.

Serendipitously, everyone that opposes the ruling —— whatever it is —— can get on with the business of amending the Constitution should they feel strongly about the issue.
