the US hasn't faced an adversary whose economic heft comes close to matching our own in 100 years, the reagan tactic of bleeding the Soviets dry by forcing it into a disastrous and unsustainable military buildup while denying it access to western loans and technology will simply not work with china.

the chinese elite have studied the soviet collapse, and they are determined to not repeat it.

china's economy is already too large, its military buildup too well-calibrated, and its cyber-raids on our technology is too successful. china is just too good!

They both are....

Russia has a long history of wanting to destroy America and that is a fact.

China should never have been allowed to join the WTO. China's goal is not just to become the world's largest economy but to be the world's dominant one, and it is willing to do anything to achieve this...

Meh, not really.

China has a decent sized military, and is completely surrounded by nuclear adversaries.

While their GDP is about the size of ours, they have four times as many people, most of them living in abject poverty.

The real concern I see with China is much like the model of 18th Century France, where there's been a great rise in prosperity for some, but most of the rest aren't feeling it.

All that said, we need to look more at improving ourselves. The Chinese are eating our lunch because they invested in education and infrastructure while we were giving tax cuts to rich people.
