There were blacks, and they were in all-black battalions. For example, I'm sure you've heard of the blacks who flew P51 fighter escort for out bombers. All-black squadron.

99th AKA Redtails BKA Tuskegee Airmen. Never lost a bomber on escort duty and gave Hitler conniption fits.
