One of the main and most important Allied bombers, the B-17 was sparked interest and greed target of Germans and Japanese during WW2. Inevitably some planes were captured and tested by the enemy. I share with you the link below that has some photos of these planes, some rare, with German and Japanese markings. To see the photos, visit the link below:

Perhaps one of the biggest captures was the Zero the Americans got almost intact in Alaska. The Zero was one of Japans secret weapons and after running the repaired Zero through its paces, America came up with the Hellcat.

And when the Hellcat went into action in the Pacific the Japs knew the jig was up. It had a kill ratio during the war of 19-1 if I remember correctly.

Very cool pictures. Both the Japanese and the Germans never developed true four engine long range bombers for almost the whole war. The Japs used the two engine Betty and variants and the Germans the HE-111 and a Dornier two engine bomber. They had designs for four engine and even larger bombers but they didn't pursue those aggressively enough. And once the B29 showed up it was the beginning of the end. It carried 20,000 lbs of bombs compared to say the B-24 which carried 8,000.
