France Steps Up Roma Deportation Despite E.U. Criticism
(...)
Former Premier Dominique de Villepin (... )
"a stain of shame on our flag" and "a collective fault committed in all our names, against the republic and against France."

E.U. commissioner on human rights. (<-...->)
"Nobody should face expulsion just for being Roma," (...) "Some of the rhetoric that has been used in some member states in the past weeks has been openly discriminatory and partly inflammatory."

OK, maybe this is why France is turning into a shit hole. They have to figure out what to do with their out of control welfare state, that is leading them the way of Greece, their illegal immigration problem and their 10% Muslim base that is trying to Islamify France (it won't be long before France is 25% Islamic)!

Are they French citizens? Nope. Under the EU charte of free movement, the host country can restrict free movement and deport non-citizen EU residents to their home country if they commit a crime(s) or they become a burden on the state. Read the article it says it right there.
The Roma in France come from Romania and Bulgaria. Those 2 countries are EU member States and part of Schenghen Treaty.
France wants them out, pays for their "relocation".
But, they can always return and France can do nothing about it.
The Justice Minister in France is now preparing a law to forbid those "relocated" a return (See Link down).
Very likely that law will be incompatible with European Law, just like the Minarett ban in Switzerland.

Last Year France already deported 11.000 Romas. This year - before the news - France already chartered 27 airplanes and deported further Romas.

Some analysts in German Press say, that French President is in downward spiral of public support and is very unlikely to get elected another time.
He now goes fishing in the nationalist camp of Le Pen for support.

Racism is the last bastion of the scoundrel. Come on. The French? Please. It is THEIR culture. They have very right to define what it is. No? Immigrants are the last ones to complain. Neither are the rest of you , for that matter.

Well, I am no expert on the immigration of Europeans, etc. but "rounding people up and sending them away" certainly sounds familiar. Was gypsies the last time too, huh?

France ought to do much, much better. I'm cancelling my Chanel order in protest.

Go figure. France is a liberal country.

France could face charges at the EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg on two counts, according to EU officials. The first is a violation of law governing behavior toward an ethnic group and the second could be for not providing Roma deportees with judicial appeal in accordance with EU regulations.

EU Justice Minister Viviane Reding on Tuesday blasted the French policy, saying she was “shocked” that Gypsies were targeted. "This is a situation I had thought Europe would not have to witness again after the Second World War," she said. Vichy France collaborated with Nazi roundups of Jews and Gypsies in the early 1940s.

Ekrem, Madeline and Peter...

Ghook is absolutely right. The repatriation of immigrants living in the host country for a decade or two DO NOT constitute ethnic cleansing by any stretch of the immagination.

Ethnic cleansing is the forced removal of ancient communities who inhabit regions/territories LONG ENOUGH for them to be considered THEIR HISTORICAL HOMELANDS.

Ex: hispanic communities in the American Southwest, Palestinians in Palestine, Maoris in NZ, etc, etc, etc...

No part of the world becomes your historical homeland 2 or 3 decades after your arrival.

Repatriation of illegal gypsies residing in France for a few decades (or illegal Mexicans in the US) is well within the rights of both countries.

For example:

The american government decides to expel a group of 250 british tourists for disorderly conduct who arrived in New York last Tuesday.

The US would be considered guilty of ethnic cleansing!!!!

If you entirely erase the time of residency while distinguishing between "normal" repatriation and ethnic cleansing you'll inevitably reach absurd conclusions such as the one above.

Only if you get stoned. :eusa_snooty:

Plus France is being blasted from right and left for its actions with the Gypsies, which means you are doing something wrong.
