A "commercial" unmanned supply rocket bound for the international space station blew up in a spectacular display Tuesday evening in Virginia. Apparently nobody on the ground was injured and sabotage is not suspected.

People forget the amount of energy these things put out to get into orbit, and sometimes things go "boom"

You can't eliminate the boom risk, you can only lower it.

One report said that the rocket's payload contained more than 1,300 pounds of food. Hopefuly the space station's crew won't die of hunger before a rocket is launched that will succesfully get to them with additional food supplies.

Back in infancy of the space program, rockets blowing up on the pad was pretty routine. And even today every couple years one won't make it, and will end up like this.
Nothing new guys.

What they said this a.m. was it had 5,000lbs, don't know if pizza was included, but another is on the way from Russia and another US in due shortly. They have redundancy built in and don't wait until they are down to their last TV dinner. The engine was Russian built but no one knows anything yet.
