Not the first time I've said this. The most harmful things about them is the destruction of human structures – that should not be there in the first place. This has some interesting points.

Some animals simply wait until the fires pass them by.

Coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks, eagles simply move in for snack time once they've passed.

"The fire actually produces many ecological benefits, like raising soil fertility and allowing certain grasses and shrubs their time in the sun to grow."

Some trees and shrubs actually need fires to reproduce.

Does create a waxy coat that increases erosion

And logging doesn't prevent forest fires.

All good.. Except that logging doesn't CAUSE forest fires either. In fact, smart harvesting can reduce the EXTENT of fires and not remove so much acreage at one fire from the eco-system.

Damn. Well, that is one way to ignore the amount of fire scarred land this year. And, as the head of the Forest Service stated, get used to it, this is the new normal. And you just go ahead and go to places like Grant County in Oregon, northern Washington, and tell the people there how wonderful those fires are for them. And many of the people that lost their homes this year were in town, not out in the forest.

No, of course you do not want to face up to the fact that this fire season was extreme. It does not fit with your insane anti-government political philosophy. With all the modern firefighting tools we had this summer, we were stretched to the max, often rushing men and machinery from one fire to the next, leaving lower priority fires to burn. There was very little in the way of attempting to save forest lands, they were fighting to save small towns, farms, and ranches.

Ah well, there is an election coming up, and the area that was burned was mostly in politically conservative areas. So, I hope that the Dem candidates remind all of the people there who would cut more money from the budget for fires and forest management.

Why yes, "smart harvesting" certainly reduces the danger of forest fire. Clear cut everything to bare ground, and there will be no forest fires in that area for many decades.

Which, the facts of clear cutting, or the fact that the fires consume the whole of the budget that was intended for managing our forests?

What is a dodge is trying to say that the kinds of fires that we are seeing now are healthy. That the droughts are not contributing to the fire situation.

Usually they are. Nature has lightning strike-caused fires factored in. Usually don't bother putting those out unless it threatens human affairs like residences.

There it is --- the classic dodge and false choice.. . Well Done GoldiRocks..

As the man asked: which is "the classic dodge, which is "the false choice"?

OMG Bullwinkle -- you really had to ask what false choice was offered by the Rocks??

Here's your classic Dodge

And here's a cartoon to help you understand "false choice" arguments..
Glad to help my lad..

So now -- do you understand what happened? I mentioned "smart harvesting" and the Rocko offered the choice between his schizoid "hands-off and then panic" bad forest mgt practices and clear cutting.
