It turns out that each year not only are more people killed with hammers and clubs than with rifles, but more people are killed with fists and hands than with rifles. These facts come from the FBI"s report on annual crime statistics. More info is given in this article:

FBI: More People Killed with Hammers, Clubs Each Year Than Rifles

A couple excerpts from the article:

For example, in 2011, there was 323 murders committed with a rifle but 496 murders committed with hammers and clubs.

Another interesting fact: According to the FBI, nearly twice as many people are killed by hands and fists each year than are killed by murderers who use rifles.

So, if we follow the left's logic on guns, the logical question is: Is it time to ban hammers, clubs, hands, and fists?

Do facts like these have any effect on all the liberals who are calling for various types of gun bans?

We need to stop focusing on the inanimate object that the person uses to commit crime and instead focus on the person and on what led him to commit the crime.

So, following the right wing logic, we should all be able to agree putting 'things into perspective' and 'throwing a little cold water onto emotional hysteria' that we can dismiss Wayne LaPierre's ridiculous idea and save taxpayer's money. No need to put armed security guards at every school. The teachers and students are already armed with the most lethal weapon...they are armed to the teeth with 2 hands and 2 feet.

American Gun Deaths to Exceed Traffic Fatalities by 2015 - Bloomberg

Guns and cars have long been among the leading causes of non-medical deaths in the U.S. By 2015, firearm fatalities will probably exceed traffic fatalities for the first time, based on data compiled by Bloomberg.

While motor-vehicle deaths dropped 22 percent from 2005 to 2010, gun fatalities are rising again after a low point in 2000, according to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Shooting deaths in 2015 will probably rise to almost 33,000, and those related to autos will decline to about 32,000, based on the 10-year average trend.

Can you think of any practical use and need for a hammer outside of being used as a tool for violence?

Can you say the same for a semi automatic weapon?
