Carson flew to Omaha to be with the family of Joplin, of Midland, Texas.
Joplin, a student at Texas Tech, had been campaigning in Iowa for Carson since early January,according to the Des Moines Register.

Around 8 p.m., Carson tweeted a photo of him and Joplin shaking hands and smiling.
"Rest In Peace Braden Joplin," he wrote. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Several crashes were reported in the area where the fatal wreck occured around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the newspaper.
"Heidi and I are lifting up in prayer the @RealBenCarson staffers injured in a car accident in Iowa," Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, tweeted, before signing the post with a Bible verse.
"Just heard about the serious car accident involving @RealBenCarson staff and volunteers," Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted. "Please join me in praying for them."
