Should the National Endowment for the Arts encourage artists to create art on issues being vehemently debated nationally?

That is the question that I set out to discuss a little over three weeks ago when I wrote an article on Big Hollywood entitled The National Endowment for the Art of Persuasion?”

The question still requires debate but the facts do not.

The NEA and the White House did encourage a handpicked, pro-Obama arts group to address politically controversial issues under contentious national debate. That fact is irrefutable.

I wonder if they've picked out the location for the 100 ft. tall Barry 0bama statue yet... Hmmmmm....

Perhaps a tax on art supplies can defray the cost...

Why is this "EXPLOSIVE" again?
1.NEA gets grants from the GOV.
2. NEA distributes grants.
3.NEA and GOV contact grant recipitants requests them to create pro obama art.
4.Pro Obama work is created .
5.VaYank scratches head.

I ask because I do not know. IF this is truly the way things are working, then I agree, that there is a massive conflict of interest here.

I can't wait to see what Glenn Beck does with this. He'll probably declare encouraging people to give blood and honor veterans Communist.

Oh, I get it. Another fauxrage issue.

The NEA gives grants to artists. Artists apply for the grants. The NEA has guidelines that people must meet before receiving the grants.

The wingnuts don't like guidelines.

They would rather that Ravi was free to call the NEA, tell them to give her some money, and then Ravi could happily paint pictures of voodoo sacrifices to hang in public buildings.

Or perhaps another masterpiece like the piss Christ thingy.

Will a day ever come when the wingnuts stop being hypocrites?

Got to love those guidelines and standards

I hope you have better evidence of this than some YouTube video?

Yeah , Why would a Congressman say such a thing.

$50,000 to the Frameline film house to screen Thundercrack, which Frameline describes as "the world's only underground kinky art porno horror film, complete with four men, three women and a gorilla. Ecstasy so great that all heaven and hell becomes just one big old Shangri-La! You will be seduced into accepting this orgy of sexual liberation!”

• $25,000 to San Francisco’s CounterPULSE to make Perverts Put Out in the NEA’s “dance” category. This weekly performance is called “ a pansexual performance series.”

• A $25,000 grant to Jess Curtis/Gravity, Inc., whose most recent work is the Symmetry Project in which nude couples, including children, are mounted on each other in various poses.

Stearns was asked by HUMAN EVENTS, “Wasn’t Vice President Biden charged with oversight of stimulus spending when President Obama proclaimed in his State of the Union message, “Nobody messes with Joe”? Stearns said, “Biden’s not doing his job. It’s a joke to think the Vice President could oversee anything. He has no record of good oversight.”

Stearns went on by asking, “The fundamental question is this: Why is the federal government subsidizing ‘artists’ that citizens refuse to support in the marketplace? We are funding bestiality and children appearing with nude adults. As to the economic stimulus rationale, there’s none. There are no long-term jobs in this stuff. This is politics, political correctness gone awry. They’re just funding pornography, and there’s no legitimate reason for it. And the American people understand that it is undermining our culture and glamorizing perversion on their dime.”
