Listing lizard as endangered could cut jobs

ARTESIA, N.M - A wildlife group wants to put a special lizard on the endangered list, but reports that could cost some jobs in the state's oil and gas and cattle industries.

A wildlife group wants to put the Sand Dune Lizard on the endangered species list. The problem is it's only found in a very small part of Southeastern New Mexico and West Texas, and its habitat is one of the largest oil fields in the nation.

"Out of the blue Fish and wildlife out of Washington just listed with out concern," said Congressman Steve Pearce, (R) New Mexico. "Over a million dollars had been contributed locally to keep this lizard alive. For a million bucks you should let the lizard live in the Hilton Inn."

I'm all for it.

As long as they keep drilling for oil and the big trucks can squish 'em with their tires.
