Egypt just voted for Sharia Law

...Those are the results of a Pew survey conducted back in December, not a referendum in Egypt.

Fear mongering.

Palestine is supposed to run on Sharia law too, but...

Egyptian Constitutional Referendum Passes Amid Reports of Voting Irregularities

Manar Mohsen, who was a poll monitor for the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, said that Islamic groups claimed that voting yes is a “religious duty” and were telling voters they should vote yes to keep Article Two of the constitution, which states that Sharia is the principal source of Egyptian law.

Many Muslims described a struggle in their country between fundamentalists and modernizers, especially those who may have felt threatened by the rising tides of conservatism. Among those respondents who identified a struggle, most tended to side with the modernizers. This was especially true in Lebanon and Turkey, where 84% and 74%, respectively, identified themselves as modernizers as opposed to fundamentalists.

In Egypt and Nigeria, however, more people were pulling in the other direction. According to the poll, 59% in Egypt and 58% in Nigeria who said there was a struggle identified with the fundamentalists.

As one can see from above, Islamia is not a monolithic society, but like ours has divergent POVs.

Everyone must remember, "self determination" is just that, not necessarily our ideal of it. If they choose, truly self determine? We have zilch to say about it.

If they go full blow fundamentalist Sharia, then expect them to try some crap with Israel, and Israel responding accordingly.

It may be better in the long run. Iran has had sharia for over 30 years, and the regular people seem to getting pretty sick of it.

Interesting note from the article, this was part of the referendum that passed!

“They also told voters to approve the amendments if they wanted to keep Coptic Christians out of government,” Mohsen said.

Its their country to do with as they will.

That is one way to put it, but when they start coming here and to especially Europe demanding special treatment like Sharia law you will thing differently. When it becomes a breeding ground for Islamist that want change the west, then it will be our problem!

We can't change it obviously, but we should HOPE for more secular style Muslim society like (yes ekrem I am giving props to Turkey), like Turkey had before their current president took the helm!
