Here is a report from the, "Center for Strategic and International Studies" on Iraq all the way back from 2004. Even back then, Iraqis felt humiliated by the invasion. The majority wanted a strong leader for life. They feel the need for a "religious type" government.

Since that time, working with the Republicans, they have written Islam into the constitution as the national religion (Article 2), codified the law that makes "Islam" the law. And enslaved their women with no hope of freedom for at least generations.
Once Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani goes, Iraq will once again enter a period of "free for all" until another Ayatollah takes charge.
You had recent demonstrations in Iran and now Egypt.
This is the problem with Republicans: They assume that since these people "demonstrate", they must want Democracy like ours.
First, they didn't in Iraq. If Iraq was such a success, why no "America Appreciation Day"? Why can't the right wing answer that simple, direct and straight forward question? Nearly 50 thousand Americans died and were maimed in Iraq, trillions spent and two countries devastated. Why does Iraq hate our guts? Where is the success?
Forget why we destroyed Iraq and removed their government. Forget, "Democrats supported the invasion". The "real" question is, "Why no America Appreciation Day" for what the Republican led administration did to Iraq? .
And now, we have a studied and thoughtful response. There are no demonstrations of "Death to America". Obama has done a great job of "keeping the focus" off us.
Obama understands that just because Egypt is demonstrating, that doesn't mean they want "US type democracy". Considering his vast experience in both this culture and other cultures around the world, Obama is perfectly suited to manage America's affairs in this situation. Could you imagine "Bomb bomb bomb....bomb bomb Iran" John McCain as president? Or Sarah "I can see Alaska" Palin as president? Or a Republican leadership that believe in "Noah's Ark" and "Magical Creation"? What if they tried to bring about Armageddon to bring Jesus back? If they believe in "Noah's Ark", you can't be sure what they might actually do. People with this kind of religious background will find "logic" if they think they are doing it for "Gawd".
And that's why it all goes back to in the Middle East - religion.
So these are the reasons Republicans should not be involved in foreign policy, especially if it's in the Middle East:
1. They don't really care that they don't know anything or understand the issues.
2. They believe they know better than those brown sand dwellers, camel jockeys or whatever the Republicans are currently calling them.
3. They have no respect for Islam.
4. Republicans never ask, "What do YOU want?", because they are "telling" you what you want.
5. The Republican answer to everything "foreign policy disputes" is "bomb the hell out of them" and "invade".
6. Republicans in this country hate our own government. Why they keep trying to "export" it makes no sense at all. That is the real "Number ONE" question. If Republicans hate our own government, why keep trying to make other countries follow the same type of government?
