Should the industry police the standards or should the federal government.

There are many reasons we have a Big Ag approach to farm animals, Wry Catcher. And there are many ill effects from that practice. IMO, we should demand these practices be halted. I buy cage-free eggs and pay only about 50 cents more a dozen.
One of the farms implicated in the outbreak hadn't been inspected in years.

We too buy cage-free, "no antibiotics, all natural feed"; we can afford to, many Americans cannot.
The New Right seems to believe a free market is a panacea for all bad things, I wonder how they feel about salmonella in their kids eggs?

Interestingly enough, the guy that owns the 2 farms that put salmonella in all our eggs has been fined REPEATEDLY for violating rules, as well as illegal immigrant labor, and animal cruelty.
BP showed us that no regulation will result in catastrophic failure when it comes to our fuel.
This dirtbag chicken man has shown us that no regulation will result in catastrophic failure when it comes to our food.
Remember when they did a test and crashed 2 cars (one was 1950's/60's and the other was a 2009) into one another?
If you were in the older car, you would have died. If you were in the newer car, you'd survive with minor injuries. Government regulation DOES work and IS needed.
Otherwise the greedy fucks at the top would ship our jobs overseas, cut the workforce and downsize for profit to increase the bottom line, thereby screwing the middle and lower class.
Oh wait.........that's what it was under Bush Jr.
We have plenty of consumers eating the eggs to test them. It worked this time didn't it?
Let industry regulate itself?
