Does anybody think legals and illegals should be required to learn English before coming to America.

All immigrant groups inevitably and eventually adapt and adopt and mingle.

Your concern is not based in economic or social realities.

By the second generation, the process is well ongoing.

My Great Grandmother was from Finland and never quite picked up the language

First generation immigrants have wide ranges of success in picking up the language.....second generation does just fine

No.

The first generation of any immigrant class has rarely learned the language. However, most of them demanded that their children did so.

Even so, all government forms and documentation should be English-only.

No. If we were to make English our official language, perhaps.

I always learned as much of a language when I went to another country, how else do you score women and drugs if you can't speak the language?

No, of course not.

But it should be a cultural expectation that they assimilate as quickly as possible, making a sincere effort to learn the language and social mores.

There are obviously many in our country who have consciously and aggressively eschewed the traditional American "melting pot" approach in favor of hyphenated Identity Politics, but all that has done is create and exacerbate cultural divisions. Perhaps that was the goal, because it certainly was predictable.
