How can we expect government to keep the nation secure from foreign enemies when they can't even handle the smaller jobs?

USDA will allow chickens from the U.S. to be sent to China and processed, then they will ship it back to the U.S. Considering the problems with China and their lack of safety regulations, I wouldn't want to eat chicken that they touched. Problem is that the government doesn't require the companies to tell us that we are buying chicken that has been shipped all over the place. And they don't have to tell us which brands have been processed there. Talk about mystery meat.

I thought the reason the USDA existed was to protect consumers. Apparently, they work for the big companies and allow them to keep secrets from consumers.

There won't be any on site inspectors at the Chinese plants. Not that it would ensure safety.

In another case, a food inspector failed to notice a serious rat infestation in a pasta plant. He was suspended for a week but the public union stepped in and the guy got his back pay and now they want repaid for his union lawyer fees. All on the tax payers, of course.

Tell me again why government takes so much tax money for us to keep us safe. They are doing a lousy job.

Then there is Monsanto. They can sell crap that will make us sick and there are no warning labels. The Obama administration is even protecting them from lawsuits when people get sick from their GMO produce.

Our government, under Democrats, have no intention of keeping us safe. They have every intention of enslaving us though.

Depends on the perspective you look at government, under the free market perspective the government is a monopoly of force like a mafia. Would you trust a mafia that works against your interests a lot of the time to keep you safe?

Why do you hate the Free Market?
Is it Nanny State's job to look after you?

Government claims to spend billions each year for safeguards because we need them. What they are doing is engaging in crony capitalism and playing favorites with companies. Monsanto and others are protected by government.

Nanny government is bad, but crony capitalism is worse.

How is allowing the free market to operate 'engaging in crony capitalism'?
Perhaps they're directing the billions elsewhere.

We should always have a free market. Part of the government's legitimate functions is making fair regulations, which means they also have to oversee them. Inspections are a great way to keep people on their toes and shut down any dishonest people.

What our government is doing is playing favorites with some companies, like Monsanto. They go out of their way to protect them from consequences when they don't follow the rules. Monsanto's produce has been known to cause serious illnesses, yet there is legislation protecting them from lawsuits. Now we have a deal with China to send chicken there for processing. Never mind that the meat might not be kept at proper temperatures and could make people ill, the factories in China have a poor track record when it comes to safe handling and clean conditions. Yet, our government has allowed this and the companies are not required to inform consumers of where the meat has been.

The government doesn't just exclude some from standards and lawsuits for no reason. They get something for it, likely big money to help them get reelected. Many have gone back and forth from Wall Street to Washington and guess who writes most of the legislation. They write legislation to favor themselves while the little guy gets screwed.

It's this kind of dirty deals that threatens our safety.

It's not nanny government when they do their jobs, but often they screw it up. Then we have this same dysfunctional government thinking they can run health care and everything else.

Many such parts of the government can be influenced by big dollars.

Look at all those so called "green" energy projects that went bust. All the investors like Pelosi, Gore, etc. got rich making sure that these unsustainable companies got billions in tax payer money.
All those jobs lost to make the rich white far left elitists, even more rich.
