Diwali was celebrated in Trafalgar Square last Sunday and the five-day "festival of lights" is be observed by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world from this weekend. Here's a short Guardian film about Diwali in Southall in 2010.

Lots of Londoners will be marking Diwali. According to the 2011 census the city contains 411,000 Hindus and 126,000 Sikhs, amounting to five and 1.5 per cent of the capital's total population respectively (I'm not aware of a figure for Jains).

Of the boroughs, Harrow has the highest proportion of Hindus, followed by Brent and Redbridge, while Hounslow has the highest proportion of Sikhs, with Ealing and Hillingdon second and third. Expect fireworks. Expect sweets. Have a good one.
