Long-eradicated diphtheria reappears in Venezuela; government blames the CIA

So far it has killed four children.

More than 20 cases have been reported in just one month, including those four fatalities in the southern state of Bolivar.

This week the sense of urgency went up a few notches when a possible case of diphtheria was reported in Caracas’ Military Hospital, considered the country’s best.

The reappearance of diphtheria, a disease not seen here in more than 20 years, is the worst symptom yet of the country’s broken health system.

Fearing government retaliation, doctors from Bolivar’s Hospital of Guaiparo Raul Leoni opted to do not reveal their identities when on Sept. 21 they reported they had four diphtheria cases, which soon turned into 23.

In the following days, two other states, Sucre and Nueva Esparta, reported a total of four cases to the Venezuelan Society of Infectious Diseases. All four patients have ties with people who had recently visited Bolivar.

When last week the Ministry of Health finally made the announcement acknowledging the resurgence of diphtheria, Diosdado Cabello, a prominent Chavista, said Venezuela is the target of a "germ warfare orchestrated by the CIA labs."

and plz no bs about how it will be magically better here.

Natrually we will want to bring all of these sick people to the U.S for their taxpayer funded treatment.
Isnt that what the Kenyan does? brings it hear and threatens to let it loose on us if we dont comply with his wishes?

lol.... No it's really simple. This is socialism. Socialism ruins everything. The more of it you have, the more problems will come about.

How? Well, it's like Bed Bugs. Bed bugs used to be almost a child's myth. "Turn out the lights, and don't let the bed bugs bite".

Many people forgot they were real. In the 1800s, 1 out of 3 people had seen a bed bug, and most had been bitten by them.

Then all of a sudden with the rise of wealth and technology, they vanished. By the 1950s, some labs had to order bed bugs from other countries to find ones alive. They were gone... with the advent of strong pesticides like DDT.

By the 1980s and 1990s, when I grew up, we thought bed bugs were like the tooth fairy. Just a children's rhythm.

But something happened.... the government over the past 30 years banned all those pesticides. Bed bugs came roaring back. Now they are everywhere.

Another example? Screwworm flies are back.
Flesh-eating screwworm infestation could spread north

Diseases once thought eradicated reappear in the U.S.
Measels is back.

Why are eradicated illnesses coming back? Well, when Polio was eradicated, the vaccines were sold by profit driven companies. Today most vaccines are price capped. Many of the standard flu vaccines, the companies producing them have dwindled to only 2 major suppliers. Meanwhile new vaccines not yet price capped, and highly profitable get tons of investment, such as treatment for Zika, while Measles, whooping cough, starts making it's way back into America.

In fact, there have been reports of a Polio like virus that has spread in certain parts of Florida. Which honestly, is terrifying.

But this is what socialism does. Everything that is socialized ends up in ruins. Everything. If we go down the same path as Venezuela, which is exactly what we seem to be doing with Bernie Sanders making such a great show this election.... We'll have Diphtheria here in the US. Along with screwworms eating our flesh, and bed bugs, and bot flies, and Polio..... it will all come back.

Doesn't have to. Just change course. Just go back to the Capitalism that made us the greatest country on Earth, and Venezuela the leading economy in south America. We can fix all of it.

But we head down the road to ruins, and join the Soviets, and we'll ruin everything.

That, but more likely, they must lower all boats, because its the only way to achieve equality. You can't force all the small boats up to the deck of a super yacht. You can however tear down the super yacht until it's all at the same equal level as all the dingys.

Shortages of medicine make HIV/AIDS "impossible to control" in Venezuela...

HIV/AIDS in Venezuela 'impossible to control,' health group warns
Nov. 8, 2016 -- The Venezuelan Society of Infectious Diseases, or SVI, warns that the lives of HIV patients are in danger due to shortages of medicine and unscheduled treatment changes that make HIV/AIDS "impossible to control."
In the past year, serious shortages of anti-retroviral medications -- specificially, atazanavir, raltegravir, ritonavir, nevirapine, efavirenz, rilpivirine, tenofovir, emtricitabine and abacavir -- have "exacerbated" and threatened the lives of Venezuela's HIV-positive population, SVI said in a statement. "The shortage of anti-retroviral drugs and reagents makes it impossible to control the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the country, making it difficult to control the transmission of the virus from the mother to her children and in the general population," SVI wrote in a public statement released Monday. "Currently, Venezuela does not have any HIV treatment considered first-rate by international guidelines."

SVI has called on President Nicolas Maduro's regime to "take necessary measures." Last week, Venezuelan Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino López announced the military would take control of the distribution of "all medical and surgical supplies managed in all hospitals." Venezuela continues to experience shortages of medicine, food for the sick and infant formula, and increased maternal mortality rates and loss of transplant organs due to power failures.

The Venezuelan opposition blames government inaction for exacerbating the country's health crisis, whereas Maduro's ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, or PSUV, argues the health crisis is a symptom of an economic crisis perpetrated by the opposition and pro-capitalist companies in alliance with the United States.

Now that it is a rental property, with young people living in it, they have been repeatedly infested.

But I assume filthy third world boy friends.

It doesn't come as a surprise that a 3rd world country like Venezuela would blame the CIA for a spike in a forgotten disease. The problem is that the CIA has become the whipping boy for the entire world. The CIA hasn't been on top of any important issue since WW2 from Korea to JFK (was Oswald a CIA operative?) to 9-11. Now the chicken shit Obama administration has the CIA running the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan while the Pentagon sits around worrying about gender fairness in the Military. Drain the swamp.

Venezuela Doctors in Protest Urge Stronger WHO Stance on Health Crisis
September 25, 2017 — Venezuela's doctors, fed up with what they called the World Health Organization's passive attitude toward the country's deep medical crisis, protested at the agency's Caracas office on Monday to demand more pressure on the government and additional assistance.
Venezuela is suffering from a roughly 85 percent shortage of medicines, decrepit hospital infrastructure, and an exodus of doctors during a brutal recession. Once-controlled diseases like diphtheria and measles have returned due in part to insufficient vaccines and antibiotics, while Venezuelans suffering chronic illnesses like cancer or diabetes often have to forgo treatment. Malnutrition is also rising, doctors say. Rare government data published in May showed maternal mortality shot up 65 percent while malaria cases jumped 76 percent. The former health minister was fired shortly after the bulletin's publication, and it has not been issued since.

In the latest protest by an umbrella group of health associations, dozens of doctors and activists gathered at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the WHO's regional office, urging the agency step up pressure on Nicolas Maduro's leftist government and provide more aid during its 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference this week. "There's been a complicit attitude because they haven't denounced things," Dr. Rafael Muci said during the rally. "This is an unlivable country, and no one is paying attention," he said, adding he earns about $8 a month at a state hospital. In a statement on Monday, PAHO stressed its main role was to provide "technical cooperation" and highlighted recent help in providing vaccines.

A woman shouts slogans during a protest outside the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Caracas, Venezuela, Sept. 25, 2017. The letters read "Health."

The Venezuelan government, which accuses activists of whipping up panic and the business elite of hiding medicines, did not respond to a request for comment. Venezuelans seeking certain drugs often have to scour pharmacies, seek foreign donations or turn to social media. Sociologist Maria Angelica Casanova, 51, has struggled to find psychiatric medicines for a year. "Sometimes they come, sometimes they don't. It's serious," she said, as passers-by shouted "Down with Maduro!"

Measles, which were controlled after a mass immunization in the 1990s, has returned to Venezuela's jungle state of Bolivar, PAHO data show. As the crisis stokes emigration, Venezuela's health problems could be exported, doctors warned. "We don't know how many people who are emigrating could have some of these pathogens in incubation period," said Andres Barreto, an epidemiologist who had participated in the measles vaccination drive.

Diatomaceous earth easily kills bed bugs and it is mined right here in the good ole' USA.

Children are dying, so save the socialist - leftist - democrat dream jokes for another thread.

When last week the Ministry of Health finally made the announcement acknowledging the resurgence of diphtheria, Diosdado Cabello, a prominent Chavista, said Venezuela is the target of a "germ warfare orchestrated by the CIA labs."

and plz no bs about how it will be magically better here.

I lived in my old house for twenty years without ever seeing a bed bug.

Now that it is a rental property, with young people living in it, they have been repeatedly infested.
In blue PA bedbugs are all over the place. It's gotten so bad that companies that specialize in getting rid of bedbugs are popping up.

People are afraid to go into a Ven hospital b/c the military is there, all the time, to confiscate whatever they want. The WHO knows it's pouring money into a canyon, so it doesn't want to waste it's funds.
